When i used to work at a pet store as a kid we had a fiddler crab come in and the others had eaten all his legs and left him with only one claw he could use to feed himself. Every morning when i opened the store i had to check him because he would fall over backwards and he would lay there waving his claw in the air. We had to moving him around to eat. One time while cleaning the tanks this lady asked us what a cute little crab and why we named him chris the crab? We told her after christopher reeve. She got pissed off and stormed out amd we never saw her again. Anyway chris the crab lived for 3-4 months before he finally passed away RIP.

+Jiyong Han Using my knowledge as a Florida native, fiddler crabs can replenish their number in a rather short amount of time compared to other kinds of crabs. I'm not sure about the actual numbers and dates but I think even after all they took the population should be back up in a couple months. Plus did you see how many of them there were? He took 2-3 buckets and there still a huge number of crabs left. At $300 a bucket that whole horde is probably worth $2,000. Leaving enough to repopulate ensures you can get much more than two grand over time, though ;)

for all those that are going on about population. its pretty obvious that these little guys reproduce very quickly for there to be so many of them. and for those who wonder why they need so many, they said that they are selling them right. well theres your answer as to why the need so many of them. its not only them their fishing for. and think about it logically, whether they sold them to their customers or all their customers fished for them themselves the amount that are going to be catched probably isnt going to change all that much. in fact it would probably be more than in this video. I dont think any one person needs this many crabs too fish with, but when dividing the number they fished by the number of customers they have, the amount probably becomes alot more appropriate.

Candace Vaillette fiddlers are an invasive species that cause more damage to the environment per habited area than humans do. those large patches of missing reeds and dry sand are cause by those land nuggets.

Pacific Gull I am sure after thousands of years those little crabs have been doing there job just as Mother Nature intended. Now along comes man and decided that they're destroying the beaches.

If you want to be an environmentalist then be an informed environmentalist. Do you even know anything about fiddler crabs? Do you know if they're invasive, what other wildlife eats them, if fiddler crab population is in danger, or if there is plenty of other food for that wildlife besides fiddler crabs? National fish and wildlife service pays attention to those things because they're informed.

How many fiddlers did you catch? ALL of them! Cool video and clever method, thank you for sharing. They're hard to find when it cools down, good to know you can freeze them!

Frame rate keeps dropping when rendering too many crabs on the screen at once. I’d recommend upgrading your graphics card.
