Does color on jig matter?
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches Жыл бұрын
Sometimes, I think as it gets deeper the colour changes because of the physics of light but the shade/pattern becomes more the trigger than the colour. In shallow water colours are retained more accurately so it can make more of a difference. The jig movement in any case is important. I know the last few years the lures coming out of Japan have more vertical bars on them and UV paint and from my experience these have had more success (not overwhelming success but its noticeable some days)....

You will probably need a longer rod, between 9-10ft long. Not sure what species you are trying to target but its good to have about 300M line on your reel, so about PE 1.5 but again it depends on the species/terrain you are fishing. Any of the Shimano Coltsniper 10ft rods would be fine.

There's the standard mechanical jigging rods for using on the boat and then there's the shore jigging rods which usually start at around 9ft. The heaviest rods that seem to be marketed as shore jigging rods are the Jigging Master Shore Game 9'8" Heavy, max drag about 16kg at 50 degrees and Zenaq also make some similar heavy rods. What the difference between the Fast action and other rods
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches7 жыл бұрын
Action refers to the bend in the rod, and where the strength is in the rod - a fast action rod will quickly bend down to the lower third (near the grip). A slower action rod will stop bending as much near the middle. (ie its stiffer )

I been told shore jigging for deep water like 20m down off the rock. Like you know there are hardly any rock around Auckland or whangarei where has deep water more then 5m at casting range. I believe with this rod I be able to cast out 40g the lightest. will I be able to make good use out of this rod as shore jigging? I been told I can also use stick bait with this but I want to try shore jigging and chase those big trev snapper 70cm ultimately kingfish in hot summer maybe around cromandel. All my friend tells me I will not be able to use it for shore jig because rock around Auckland dont drop that deep and 40g jig will hit the bottom too quick before fish be able to chase it. I all so have talkwalk egin for casting 20 to 30g jig also a eging rod. what is your take on it
@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches5 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the question, looks like you have a nice setup. Shore jigging doesnt have to be in water 20 meters or deeper. My snapper was caught in about 12 meters. Deeper water can be more helpful for working the lure and it not getting snagged but you can adjust your technique and lure to still work areas where the fish are. West Coast ledges are generally steeper and the water does drop off to 10+ meters. It can be over sand as well so less chance of snags. It may take a bit of homework to find the areas and know the depths to work the jig properly but don't be afraid to step outside the 'rules' and try stuff to catch fish eg - shallower water (6-8 meters) different lures, different areas (sandy or muddy) etc etc... check out my shore jigging video - its meant to be a starting guide, not an ultimate guide....

@DIGITALFISHContentthatcatches6 жыл бұрын
yeah good question - 10000 reel because at the time i didn't have the cash to own a decent 10k and 6k reel. I use the 10k for shore jigging, topwater and stray lining (see kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX_Ch4yDhLWqeqs when I hook a suspected huge ray or shark). I was running an est 10kg of drag on 15kg mono. So yes a little on the heavy side but as the rod can handle 13kg of drag, a reel that won't internally bust at that drag rating is a good thing..... re 4x vs 8x - again, a matter of cost.... I have multiple spools for the same reel rather than multiple reels...PE 3, 5,8...it starts adding up... hope that makes sense?

One of my rods is also only 5g to 30gr, from a Japanse brand called Jatsui (my local tackleshop imported some when they came back from Japan from an angler convention). It says on the rod PE 0.6 to 1.2. Way to light to successfully land a seabass in my opinion, yet they are sold specifically to land seabass (Jatsui Seabass Black Eagle J-8ML). I don't see how they are able to even land a midsized seabass on such a light rod. I mostly use it for inland water canals though. It does hold his ground there, but like I said, a big wild seabass? Nope, I don't think so. Something tells me it would simply snap when put under that kind of stress. For seabass - and other big species that can be found at the shore here (Belgium) I use a Cinnetic Explorer Sea Bass 270, 100% carbon, with Fuji reel seat. This rod can cast between 15gr and 60gr (recommended CW being 35gr). Casts very far and lands a fat 42cm seabass without a problem. Usually I cast lures (with or without a jighead) that are between 30gr and 35gr, but I've been casting 40gr with it too, without a problem. There is no mentioning of PE on it though, on that particular rod. Cheers.

P.E. refers to the diameter of braided line. This then corresponds to the strength of the line eg PE 3 line is around 30-50lb breaking strain. When a reel manufacturer has a line capacity rating for their reel, they will often measure it by how much of a certain diameter line it can hold eg 300 meters of P.E. 3 line.
