Yo Rodney, this technique works really well with a paddle tail swimbait as well. I was killin flattys the other day with a 3' bighammer on this rig.

Thanks for the videos. I had a bunch of those grubs that you used on drop shot in another video. Decided to try it out down here in Enseanda, Baja California. Caught a 4.5 pound Halibut. Sadly my biggest to date fishing the bay down here. Thanks for that tip man. You should also try using a big hammer jig head in 3/8 chartreuse and a keitech fat impact 3.3 in electric shad or electric blue gill. Works great. I catch 20-30 spotties every time out and 1-3 halibuts using that method. If you ever want to come down to Mexico, let me know. We are 70 miles south of San Diego and have an awesome little bay here called Estero. Tons of spotties and hali's.

Awesome video bro. I just went to Paradise Pier in Marin County on a scouting mission and saw a guy using similar technique to nail halibut after halibut. So I googled to get more information on technique etc. and came across this video. I plan on getting out there tomorrow to try it out with the gulp mullet. Will keep you posted how I do. This will work for the smaller butts however if you hit a sizeable one it will destroy that weak hook and or snap off that rig. I notice you call a 23 incher huge when its just a inch over legal. Huge is 30-40lbs not 23 inches.

Nice video. I love eating halibut but that was cool to see you release that one even though it would have been legal to keep. I live in Florida and we don't have halibut here but we do have flounder. I think the same technique works for flounder too. You should try using a one ounce jig head on the bottom instead of the bank sinker and then put another Gulp swimming mullet on the jig head. Doing this gives you two hooks/baits in the water and will probably increase you hookup ratio. It is all about getting the attention of the halibut and if there is one in the area, it will likely attack one of the hooks on your rig. For more information about it check out John Skinner on KZbin, his videos have excellent content. Good luck.

Don't get out there as much as I used to but just about anything. Trout, catfish, bass, striper, sturgeon, shark, rockfish, salmon. Living in proximity to the San Francisco Bay Area enabled me to fish for many species. I plan on getting back out there more when retirement comes around.

We us these on high-low rigs drifting in NJ for fluke. Put one on spro head with skirt for bottom and another on tsunami glass minnow on the top to jig.

great technique for catching halibut. I actually tried that technique and made a video on it a while back : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZatlGx-mb9jmMU

@@RodneyMarquezFishingChannel Similar. We use 2-4 Spro. Need the weight for the drift/current. Jig head is not meant to hit the bottom. Upper glass minnow has about 6 inch lead to the drop loop.

U are lucky I'm up on Vancouver Island catch alot of halibut here but never usually above 150' and always in a boat have U ever gotten a big one from shore by big I mean over 50 pounds. Try using salmon bellies not guts just the very bottom where find are. Squid work great but my fave 2-4 pound greenling chop off head use big treble hook cast out and let it sit on bottom if u want to catch some big ones. Only advice I have if a big one bites is HANG ON

Confi La awesome ! I'm glad it worked out for you. yes halibut gets really good at night. most of the time I like to fish on docks. Halibut like to lurk near docks, because the bait fish are hugging them

Pretty similar fish to the summer flounder here on the east coast. Over here we use a bucktail and teaser with some different sized gulp. Would that work for halibut too?
