That little plastic coil on the hook was an old snell that I cut off. Very happy with this as a *basic* step to catch the big one! This week I have a 10k subscriber video giveaway + a what I do for a living vid with it. Time to put the big boy KZbin pants on.

U normally use barbless hooks?
@mainemade3003 жыл бұрын
They make ballon sliders that's an take off ur line ,just twist I use them for gaint bluefin tuna on a big fish the inverts will push out an the outer will fall off ,that way it won't get caught in ur to eye or rollerguide
@patrickkerner14713 жыл бұрын
For 2021 only circle hooks when out for Stripers on bait in NY waters. You can bet DEC will be checking.

Elias- what size (lb) leader do you use when fishing with jigheads and not live lining? Thanks for the videos!
@EliasVFishing7 жыл бұрын
Lowell DePalma 25lb flouro covers it when no blues around. 3 to 4 feet. Fish 3/4 oz to 1 1/2 oz depending on depth and current

Hey man, have you tried a sabiki rig for bunker? I have a feeling it would be really effective for them if you bait the rig.
@LongIslandtoMd7 жыл бұрын
They dont hit hooks/eat bait.

EliasVFishing Hey Elias, thanks for making these videos, it's definitely helping me step my game up and helping me become a better kayak angler. I was wondering if you could make a video specifically towards how to find and snag bunker. Thanks bro
@LongIslandtoMd7 жыл бұрын
Look for disturbances on the surface of markings on your fish finder. Throw bunker snag into the school. Reel and rip. Reel and rip. Take bunker off snag.

If you use the mouth closed method, and it eventually dies, it’s gonna float back up to the top of the water quickly? Right? Because it’s dead?

How do you like the Hobie Revo?! I like the extra speed but the space inside the boat is not great. Very slim on the sides rails. I dont think I would be able to give up my side trays in the Outback.
@EliasVFishing7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that takes a little while to get used to. But when it's time to cover ground...it can't be beat. Both very good boats so that's why I have both! :)
@KayakCatfish7 жыл бұрын
Another awesome video! Thanks for sharing! Is that a homemade bunker bag/livewell or did you buy that somewhere? I would like to get me one. I think that would be perfect for keeping skipjack alive here on the Tennessee River.
@EliasVFishing7 жыл бұрын
I made one out of fencing material, zip ties, and sinkers! You can buy a nice fancy one too with a little more space too. My buddy Gene makes a nice mesh one also from www.eastcoastkayaktrollingtubes.com also
@KayakCatfish7 жыл бұрын
EliasVFishing Thanks! I will definitely be making one this weekend. This is going to be great for keeping skipjack and white bass alive down here and I love the fact that it doesn't take up any space or add any weight to the kayak when not in use.
@gyong87 жыл бұрын
Elias have you ever tried to keep macks alive in them? Wonder if it'll work for that...

How many big bunker can you keep at a time in it?
@Viper-cm6ff7 жыл бұрын

On the kayak very rarely, more common on a boat or livelining with no weight from the shore.
@Viper-cm6ff7 жыл бұрын
thanks good to know
@jfisher1017 жыл бұрын
I didn't see it in your video but when you are trolling a live bait like this do you have to do a hook set or does the forward motion set the hook for you. Thanks
@LongIslandtoMd7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you still need to set the hook. Even if trolling the bunker.

yo that first bass on that live bunker was a fat beast. "yeah son fish on". i figured that about the bunker if u pinch his mouth he'll dig a little deeper.. wasnt to sure.
@EliasVFishing7 жыл бұрын
Yeah had the girth for sure. Was about 38"/39" feasting on bunker. Guessing high 20 pound class pushing 30. I don't go crazy with measurements or weights on a nice fish unless I know it's THAT big. My main concern is getting just a shot of it quick and sending her off without killing it.

Hey I'm moving to brooklyn in a few weeks from the south, do you eat the fish in the NYC waters, specifically the Jamaica Bay?

What is the weight rating you would recommend for a rod for a big striper like that?

Sasha J that Daiwa is a M power rod actually. Ugly stick also makes a similar one. I like a rod with a little more give when "livelining"
