Green mini jig and this technique worked great when I went up north Cal. Lakes to visit my home town..Me and my brother have been fishing there since the early 70s, mostly with rooster tails...but we converted to mini jigs and the trout seem to be bigger. Thanks again.

I stumbled onto uour channel and was amazed with your fishing mini croppie jigs for trout. Im glad i saw this video because i was wondering how you throw such a light jig out off the bank. Before i saw this video, i bought some 4 lb berkley vanish fluoro. Im just going to use this line and try it on my ultra light rod and reel this weekend up in the lakes near Lake Tahoe. I cant wait to try this method for fishing for trout. Hopefully i catch something large. But i will report back how my trip went. I bought a yellow tube mini jig and some pink ones. You should try using Notorious Jigs. U have to order them from their Facebook page. Notorious jigs are KILLER for trout literally. A trout magnet is nothing compared to notorious jigs and if u do use them I promise u will not be disappointed

those lakes seem pretty flat at the bottom. the lakes I live around are pretty rocky and there's a lot a moss that starts to grow so I was wondering if you think it would work.

10 lb line worked on the marabou. I used yellow and black which caught 4,and the pink one had a lot of followers but only a few bites.

OMG I was watching this vid because I was at summer camp and they had a lake with a canoe dock I used a big red and white trihook sooner maybe 6ft down I saw a head it bit and I reeled in and I had a 3lb 24 and a half cm fish I was at day camp my camp counselor was going crazy people were at shore yelling OMG OMG and we ate it 😂 🐟

Is there a brand of 2lb test you recommend? When I was using 2lb with Thomas Buoyants I was breaking my line at the lure just casting. After watching $12 in lures fly into the lake I put my 4 lb test back on and had no problems. I'm caring fish with 4lb but I'm wondering if I'm missing some because of the 4lb line. Mike Waara excellent question . I like the co polymer because of the extra stretch. Much needed when fighting a fish 3 to 4 times the line strength . Flouro is good to because it has that extra line invisibility. Try both of them out and let me know which you like best

Hey Rodney... I enjoy your tips and tricks. Keep em comin. Was at Poway last week and tried the mini-jigs. I was on the shore but boats came into the area and took over. They were using jigs also and were pulling them in. I though, didn't get any interest from any trout. I could see the trout come up to mine and cruise right by. I believe my jigs were the same color as the boat guys. Seeing that happen, do the boats anglers have an advantage over shore in that they can keep the jigging in the water longer and not having to keep casting?

+Johnnatheman Yeah the boat anglers have a better angle at casting for trout. However if the trout were chasing your lure, they actually wanted the lure. At that point its really about twitching the rod or changing the cadence of reeling it in or depth. Keep at it, you will land a big one for sure

Hi Rodney, new subscriber here... liked this video very informative. however i have some questions. i live in calgary, near bow river where there is a bait ban. i can use only unscented plastics baits, lure and flies(fly fishing). and i'm s spinner guy. my question is can i use this technique on fast water? would i need to add split shots or change to a heavier line? i use a ultralight to light rod with a 4-6lbs test usually. can't find a stable pool here, deeper pool here still has a fast current. thanks

yup stay there and keep casting till you catch your limit :) I usually switch mini jigs when I'm not getting bit on that color around 10 min of using it

It's a struggle for me because if I find a elevated place with a deep pool below the mini jig kills. But open water if I use a light jig I can't get the distance I need. If I use a heavier jig I sink to fast. I got a 7 ft ultra light with 4 lbs line. But with a trout magnet can't get far enough out that the trout don't see me. I tried a weighted small bobber but no bites. Any suggestions? What's the perfect size jig head for distance and still have a slow sink rate? I found a split shot kills my action. Sorry I know it's a lot but I'm trying to get this because I know under the right conditions this style of fishing is life changing!

+Inshoreangler1301 Yes you can! Try using 8-10 lb line. You should be good to go. Thowing a 3 inch swimbait and letting it hit the bottom and slowly retrieving it will get a spotty to bite :)

SAIDsoe I prefer mono because it has good stretch and prevents the hook from pulling if the drag isnt set correctly. Mono is usually cheaper than fluoro. Fluoro sinks quickly for better presentation and it is nearly invisble in the water. Its also more abrasion resistant than mono.

You had that Rainbow Trout out of the water for too long if you planned on releasing it. 10 seconds is the rule. one should try to remove the hook ftom the fish in the water to minimize the time it is out.
