the bite to me feels like you are dragging a jig over a oyster pile, except your jig is just resting on the bottom. when you think you have one on, slightly lift the tip of your rod to feel if there is any weight. if there is yank that rod up to set the hook in their mouth full of teeth.

I've used artificial crabs before with limited success. It's tough to feel the bite in my experience
