Can you talk about and possibly do a video on the types of channel drains, when, where and why you would use them and where to get them?

That would be a good video. 👍

I'm interesting in seeing how the system works and drains out of that pipe

I'm really behind on editing video. This job was installed last year. We had fall rain, winter thaw / rain. It works great. 💪

Great video thanks. I have the same situation of negative love in my yard. My pavers are on 4" concrete base. If I do as you did on the pavers does the channel drain get cemented in? I see on this job it looks like it wasn't , just installed below the pavers, and being in NY I would expect some winter heave so I would allow for that. So once again should I cement it in? Thanks again

Yes it did get cement and yes you do need to cement the channel drain. This video shows it in more detail kzbin.info/www/bejne/l167l4asprZ2hrMsi=iaXYLEdb82CPcfh1

Hi there ,does a channel drain needs slope or can it be flat since it will be open on one side ? thank you
@FRENCHDRAINMAN2 жыл бұрын
Flat is fine because water seeks level. It will all pour out the end provided it was installed with no bellies in it.

Hmm. I am installing my own channel and was trying to slope it over 35 ft and dealing with it too far below edge of existing slab on side where the outlet is. Looks like I need to rethink that.

Is the channel drain level ? I need to do something like this in front of my garage but would like it to be level with the slab but as you said in the video if the water is level it’s no good. What % slope is recommended for the channel drain.Also if the channel drain is exposed to the weather I would imagine it would become a block of ice

Watch "Yard Drain Slope 101 Part 1" on KZbin kzbin.info/www/bejne/aITNYn2wrquYm6c Yes its level. The example in the very beginning of this video shows how it will drain of all it's water.

I’m confused, so water will flow to the lowest point. It seems like the discharge (yellow piping the runs behind the landscape) is level or almost higher than the catch grates. Also, all the grates seem to be sitting level. So won’t the water just fill up in the grates, and pool up and out of the grates?
Do those 4” channel drains come in a lighter color, not black? And do they come a couple inches wider so that thin sliver of field tile could have been removed?

how is this installed. Doesn't look like it's in concrete. NDS doesn't say how to install it except for concrete but I'd rater install it like that in my hardscape (and no cars over it)

Got a question, I'm gonna take your advice and change my sump discharge line to 1 1/2" schedule 40 flex white. Same as I see you using in this video. Yours looks Grey but assuming it's the same as mine in white. My question is the 90 degree fittings your using, can I use those at my indoor sump discharge line to work it out of the pit? I'd be using 2 of them. One at the top of the zoeller pump and one to go up the wall to get the water outside. I thought I'd just glue the fittings but you have clamps. What kind of clamps do I use? Did you also glue your 90's?
@FRENCHDRAINMAN2 жыл бұрын
Avoid 90° as often as possible. We use a lot of 45°

Thx for the info. Your crew rocks, they do good work. Your only as good as the men in the crew! That’s what I was taught.

Does anyone who installs hardscapes professionally believe those tiny "microdrains" installed in concrete or in pavers also believe they would be sufficient to carry substantial rain runoff like the often insufficient sized standard rain gutters and downspouts attached to any residential house.

Depends on what your base material is used. Most patios I do We use 6a clean lime stone with clean 9a limestone chips. It it has great compaction qualities and it prevents water issues like hydraulic pressure especially on raised patios. We typically create permeable patios. They are better for freezing winters.
