Great video! I saw you cover the small hinges, what about the ones that run along the entire side of each of the top doors?

SO quick question could you have just used the Waverly Ivory chalk paint and covered this or do you need that really bright white you started off with.? The color of this cabinet came out fantastic in fact that is the exact color of the kitchen cabinets I want in my kitchen. Just need that paint

It would overwhelm me just trying to decide how many and what colors of paint and wax to use! Not sure I would know where to start! I guess my first project should be a small piece of furniture.

Niiiiice! Could you mix the black wax into the white wax to create a softer depth and eliminate a step?
@KerriLawless5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kimberly, great question! Actually you could but it would create a different look. Adding the white by itself creates a very soft and chalky effect and adding the dark by itself adds lots of depth in the crevices. If you use a gray wax, you will get something middle of the road but would still be quite pretty. Just depends on which look you’re going for. Thanks so much for the feedback! 🌸

Hi Kristi. One question i colored and old buffet with chalk paint in color ivory. Buy it turned out so beigy! Needs some depty or something should i add some white wax or what should i do to add a little color to it? Looks so plain beige!
@KerriLawless5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sandra! There are a variety of things you can do to fix that. The technique that we’ve used here incorporates multiple colors and A couple of different dark waxes. Maybe this video will inspire you as to which colors to try on yours. I use several colors of chalk paint at the same time with water to blend and then I use different colors of wax as well. This link shows you how to get depth if you’re going darker: How To Chalk Paint Furniture *DIY*| Distressed Finish Tutorial | Console, Coffee, and Side Tables | kzbin.info/www/bejne/haDKi3yqa8hpmKs

What if I have scratches on my furniture, do I need to sand it down before I use the chalk paint?
@sylviaseri42354 жыл бұрын
You did not prime before chalk painting. Has there been any bleed through? I have never chalk painted before but I have painted cherry furniture using General Finishes milk paint and had to prime before. It took me 2 coats primer and 3 coats of milk paint. Five coats is way too many to do!

I’m confused. In another of your videos you mentioned this type look as outdated and painted the cabinets white. I think it was a kitchen with pickled cabinets.

chalk paint over that older antique probably original laquer finish will not stick even with that so called designer primer you would be able to scratch it off with your finger nail with out a doubt ,Ive seen it all before, , it needs to be preped properly scrubbed down with tsp or laquer thinner first to remove any surface polishes or pollutant then lightly sanded which will leave the surface ready for the correct primer which in my experience would be a BIN white pigmented shellac primer, very smelly but the best, also this product would hold back any stains that were on the project, I would apply 2 coats of the BIN then let it completly dry for 24 hrs, then lightly sand and your ready for your finishes to be applied over the top, THEN DO YOUR CHALK THING, I guarantee you will not be able to scratch it off when your finished, do the prep and you wont be dissapointed

Kerri in one of your chalk painting videos you suggested a water spray bottle to help with chalk painting. I have just done my first chalk painting job in hot weather and that spray bottle suggestion was fantastic. It’s summer here in Western Australia and that’s a great tip! Thank you so much.
