You definitely don't need to lower the Y pipe to remove the pan. The 1/4" swivel saved the day! I also installed the $50 Dorman pan with the drain plug installed. Frequently changing your transmission fluid is key to a long transmission life, more so than the filter. Now I can easily do the fluid every 25K and just do the filter at 75k. Thanks for the tips and confidence boost! I did the whole job from my garage floor and didn't even jack up the vehicle!

I tried a 3/8” swivel and 10MM and would not fit, a 1/4” with a 10MM fits ? I got so frustrated, sent the filter and replacement screws back and was just going to swap out the fluid without doing the filter, I gotta see if I can get in with my 1/4”

Just did this to my 2010. The back bolts are difficult, but doable. Cost me $70 for the filter, rubber gasket and replacement fluids. Much better than the $250 the local transmission shop wanted to charge me.

This is a great video as it shows how to handle a difficult pan removal. Jeep used red Locktite on all bolts on my 2011 and were a bitch to get off. In fact, I could not get bolt #5 off and had to take my Jeep to my mechanic (who had to drill out that bolt as he could not get it off either). I can only conclude that the engineers at Jeep did this on purpose.

What if you take the heat shield off the exhaust ? Enough room ? I tried to do my 2010 Jeep yesterday (driveway, on my back) and gave up due to those back screws, was thinking of removing the heat shield, but had no steel zip ties to put it back on, and not sure if it’s spot welded or not.

@@HomeownerRepair I ordered “flex” 3/8 and 1/4 socket extensions from Amazon, I think those will work. Another guy said he was able to get in with a standard 1/4” swivel (I only tried a 3/8” swivel (and double), but could not get a good position) but I ordered these to give a try, my only concern is they may not be able to take 25 ft lbs of torque, and possibly more to get them removed (Long Island “rust belt”), we’ll see. I have a 2016 (NAG1) that needs to be done too, which is only 6 screws that use a lipped method of connection, but looks to have same issue with exhaust pipe blocking.

Hey guys I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler...2 Door 70th anniversary edition and I love it but... recently the Engine light has been going on and not staying on but it will stay on long enough (1or 2) weeks then shut off...I did the trick with the ignition.. key on/off x3 to pull up any codes that the jeep is throwing and I got a P 0470 code and I looked it up and it talking about an exhaust pressure sensor?? But then go deeper and other sources is talking about transmission converter solenoid??? Idk..the thing I noticed is that my Eco light that's below the compass and temp reader...well it disappears doesn't work...and funny thing is I'm not having any problems whatsoever with my transmission...it's not slipping it's not grinding nothing... it's running perfectly fine to me... but I want to tackle this little engine light hiccup before it turns into a burp/fart then shit is all over the place lol I was going to change out my transmission filter and put a new one in and some new fluid... I'm thinking maybe the fluid might be dirty?? Might be low?? Can you guys please please give me your opinion on this... my fix in my head is to go through a filter/fluid change and as it's pulled down inspect for further problems... because if I have transmission problems wouldn't it show it in the pan and filter.?? Like shavings and things like that?? Sorry for going on and on just want you guys to understand what I'm talking about...thank you guys... I'm expecting to hear from you guys as soon as you read this! 👍💯 Thanks!!!!

You may want to start with the simple things first check the sensors along the exhaust system for a loose or broken wire.

I'm from Southern Colorado...San Luis Valley to be exact and we got a real good storm in last night but in a few days once the ground dries up I'll make sure and get that checked out and let you know what I find... thank you so much God bless!
