WHAT IS THE CABIN AIR FILTER ON YOUR FORD EXPEDITION?
Cabin air filters, also know as A/C air filter, help enhance the air quality inside your vehicle creating a healthier, more comfortable environment for you and your passengers. A properly functioning cabin air filter, or ac air filter, can stop up to 90% of dust, pollen, and spore particles from entering the Ford Expedition passenger compartment location.
WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE THE CABIN AIR FILTER ON YOUR FORD EXPEDITION?
It is recommended that you replace your cabin air filter every 10,000 - 15,000 miles or once a year. However, you may want to replace or change the cabin filter in you Ford Expedition more often if:
-You or a frequent passenger suffers from allergies or has other respiratory problems
-You drive your Ford Expedition on dirt roads or in an excessively dusty location
WHERE IS THE CABIN FILTER ON YOUR FORD EXPEDITION?
The cabin filter is located behind the glovebox. The glovebox will need to be removed in order to access the cabin filter.
The Ford Expedition owners manual contains the following information on the cabin air filter:
Your vehicle is equipped with a cabin air filter, which gives you and your passengers the following benefits:
• It improves your driving comfort by reducing particle concentration.
• It improves the interior compartment cleanliness.
• It protects the climate control components from particle deposits.
You can locate the cabin air filter behind the glove box.
Note: Make sure you have a cabin air filter installed at all times. This prevents foreign objects from entering the system. Running the system without a filter in place could result in degradation or damage to the system. Replace the filter at regular intervals

Thanks for your very detailed and to the point video, it was extremely helpful. I would like to beat the engineer that designed this process with a bamboo Cain. Much more difficult than my wife’s old Sienna or my 2019 Ram 1500. There should be an access panel in the rear of the glove box and no tools should be required. The regular air filter change only took 30 seconds.

Great video thanks for the help. I only have one suggesting, there really isn’t a need to disconnect the glove box light as you can gently let it have down as you replace the filter- not a big deal but just a small pointer. Great video!

Thanks for posting PYR.. I own an Expedition and I just hate the new domestic engineering designs that auto techs have the use the "Grip it and Rip it" method to remove parts and components just to get to a cabin filter. There is no way any of those parts will last any more than 5 or 6 years with replacing a cabin filter maybe a few times.

Your local auto parts start will likely have these in stock - otherwise there are many places online that will have them such as Amazon.

Any ideas where to get replacement white clips at? I managed to break one but also doesn’t seem like I need it (like you mentioned). Just wanted to ask in case I break more on future filter replacements.

I would start by calling or visiting a Ford Dealerships parts department. They may have them but if not they may be able to at least give you the actual part number or the technical name so you can search for them online that way.

Is there a cabin air filter on a 2013 Ford Expedition? I can't seem to find it and some forums say this year (2013) did not have cabin air filters. Any ideas?

I can't find a definitive answer that either but I would not be surprised if a 2013 did not have one. Most but not all cabin filters are located behind the glovebox so I would start there to see if you can find one.

This is a terrible design! I got it changed and think I messed up the glove box light, maybe plugged in wrong. I’ll by a new expedition before I do that again! My air filter was filthy too! 1 1/2 years old truck

Probably the best example of the most horrible design I have ever seen!! It's as if Ford went out of their way to make it a royal PITA to replace a commonly replaced part. I'll add this to the list of my disappointments with this POS vehicle. Already replaced the lower half of the engine in the first year of ownership. Still burns 1 quart of oil every 2k miles. And that apparently is "within Ford specs". SMH
