How to swap out a car battery.
Sorry for the missing dad joke, I have been buried with media requests, and pushed this video out with going back over it. :/
DAD JOKE - Why didn't the dead battery cost anything? Because it was free of charge. :0)
A battery should last 4 to 6 years, maybe less in extreme climates.
You will be charged a "core" fee ($15?) if you don't bring the dead battery in when you buy the new battery. After you swap out the battery, you can bring the dead battery back where you bought it to get the core charge back.

When my sister was about your age she was living in a townhouse. Postage stamp size front yard, and a little electric mower. Everyone told her "be careful you don't run over the cord......... She ran it over anyway.😂 She unplugged the cord and got her tool box. Her neighbor (a guy) was seriously impressed when she cleaned up the cut ends, bared some copper and spliced the cord together. Then sealed it well with electric tape. Neighbor staring in disbelief asks "Where did you learn to do that, she replied from watching my dad and 5 brothers.

Confidence is a big one, I noticed when I first started going to the mechanic for various basic things the could tell the could wring the money outta my pocket. Once I started learning more about how my car worked and what needs to be replaced when they can bombard you with a list of things that are "wrong" with the vehicle. A common thing I see Is that they will give you a list of stuff that might be worn down and tell you that its unsafe to drive but in reality its just normal wear and tear. As for buying a car I haven't crossed that road yet but I'd assume the same sort of principles apply (Know what you want, do plenty of research, and don't feel like you can't disagree with their opinion)

Ryan Fitzgibbons thank you so much Ryan! I have definitely noticed better service when I’m knowledgeable about what needs to be done or what has already been taken care of. I often turn down their extra fixes list, what’s the best way to tell when something on that list really does need to be fixed, should I bring it elsewhere for a second opinion and then go ahead with the fix if they say it’s serious as well?

@@bellabigotti1728 My family has been going to a small local shop for 20+years and we've gotten to know and trust the owner. Eventually the knowledge of what and when becomes common sense sorta like you can rather easily as the vid shows change your battery and wiper blades but an oil change requires special equipment. Your car should come with a manual telling you how to diagnose some problems, what to worry about and if you or a dealer/mechanic should fix it. Im happy to try and answer any more questions you might have!!! :)

My dad was nearly zero presence, but I have a handy Mom who showed me how to change and gap spark plugs, oil, do tire pressure,etc., when I was 18, plus basic hand tool skills. During the pandemic I had to learn how to gut and drop in toilets, do basic replumbing with pex, some light electrical work and other light home fixes. Stuff I had never done before. I'm still learning. So grateful to see Dads like you helping and encouraging us 'kids'. Sending you a big hug ~

Thanks so much for that video. I had problems with my car due to the lack of driving in the whole corona time we're in right now, so much that it did not even start as the battery was completely discharged. Even though i was able to resurrect it, I still bought a new battery but was unable to put it in myself as i was afraid of the electricity on the plus part of the battery and how to touch it. You're video helped me a lot getting some general understanding! As my dad lost quite a lot of his ability to speak / think clearly, your videos literally bring tears of joy to me, only a simple sentence like 'you've got this'. Even though i am also already 31, sometimes you just need a little bit of that in your life. All the best to you from Bavaria btw, cheers!

Changing my battery for the first time soon and was at a loss, until I came across this! I love these videos. Best source of Dad Knowledge™. It's a little trippy, you kinda talk and sound like my actual Dad, but I have a relatively negative relationship with him. So it's like seeing my Dad with empathy instead of apathy. If he was a better person and cared. Thank you for all that you do. Your videos are not only educational, but in a lot of ways, cathartic.

Internet dad i want to say how amazing what your doing is. I was fortunate enough to have a dad (he was a drunk but a dad none the less) and i think its absolutely amazing what your doing here filling the gap in alot of people's lives and providing that common knowledge for people that wouldn't get it otherwise. On behalf of all people. Thank you sir

My dad passed in 2010 in a motorcycle accident. I remember watching him work on the cars and build things, but I didn't retain alot, I wish I paid more attention. Now I'm a single mom of two girls and I wanted to be self sufficient not only for me but so they they can be too. They actually saw me in action when I unclogged their bathroom sink and bathtub after watching your videos. You're amazing and thanks for helping me be amazing by extension :)

I enjoy listening to you just because your so authentic. I’m a women who’s dad died when I was one year old. Not only your patience but your tone of voice is comforting. Basic. No extra talk just practical things. I don’t mind if your information is not always right but you read the comments and make adjustments. No dad has all the correct info but you give what you know. Not everyone has that. You are best. It’s so easy but no one was given this time and info. You are doing a great service. Hugs from a Swedish distance....as you know, we are controversial. The thing that 'scares' me is the thought/possibility of getting shocked, but I know it won't hurt that much
@KurosakiYukigo
@KurosakiYukigo 4 жыл бұрын
Don't worry! There's very little chance of being shocked by a car battery. You have to touch both posts at the same time to draw any current and even so, as long as your hands aren't wet and you're not touching with any particularly sensitive areas you won't really be in much danger of anything but a "Ow! That #$#@$ing hurt!" You really have to be handling the battery in a pretty irresponsible way for that to happen though. Pay attention and you'll be right as rain!

My girlfriend and I were looking around for how to remove the battery properly and found your video. We aren't complete novices, we just wanted to make sure which side to disconnect first so we don't blow up. That being said we were wondering why you were over explaining things. Now after watching a KZbin clip about your channel I came back and totally understand. Thank you so much for what you do.

can you do a video to know when you have to change gears while driving with stick shift? Please
@therealreel6436
@therealreel6436 4 жыл бұрын
Pretty simple really, just push the clutch all the way in, shift, press on the gas slowly, and remove pressure from the clutch at the same time slowly, if you jerk your foot off the clutch you’ll jerk forward. If you don’t put enough gas you’ll stall... it takes some time to get the hang of, but it’s pretty simple. I would just watch a KZbin video and you’ll get it soon! Good luck! Definitely the best way to drive
@Lily_1010
@Lily_1010 4 жыл бұрын
I've driven stick a long time, at first you can look at the RPM gauge and you notice that in the lower gears like 1 2 or 3 you don't want the RPM's past about 2 or 3, you'll start to hear the engine sound very loud and sounds kinda like the engine is screaming at you, haha, so you don't want that. You want to shift before that happens. After you have learned to drive stick, you won't even look at the RPM gauge, you'll just know when to shift, it comes naturally. It's also best to learn at a big empty parking lot or country roads, a lot less stress. Good luck!
