I went "ouch" when Alan slipped off the hub nut when tightening it (and yes, I have done the same thing many times!). You probably did not have the room but I would always try to pull up against the weight of the car when doing those up rather than trying to push as Alan was doing

What is the centering diameter of the rear disk? I'm reading conflicting information between suppliers. Autodoc: 61.9mm Eurocarparts: 56mm GSF: 30mm (seems way off!) Your Amazon link: 61.9mm, same as Autodoc. However, while Autodoc asks for the car reg, it shows a bunch of disks of differing specs, yet also states none of them are compatible with my vehicle! So I'm stuck as to which one to buy.

Neat design, having the bearing built into the disc, although I expect it pushes the price up somewhat. Had to replace a rear wheel bearing on my E class a couple of weeks ago after failing to get the M-B ‘Stealer’ to replace it as it’s just a bit out of warranty (despite the fact that I reported the developing whine whilst it was covered and they did nowt. What a pig of a job, especially as the bearing had welded itself the the carrier on the shaft. Ended up cutting the rotten thing off. Really glad that I was able to borrow a two post lift and full workshop as well as having experienced help from my daughter’s boyfriend. Still, job done and silence restored now. Next to replace the Nox sensor which has an intermittent fault. On back order with M-B and will cost £360 plus Vat! Ouch.

They are more expensive. (circa £90 a pair when I would expect 50 a pair for similar sized standard ones. But on the up side you know the well bearings were changed every so often. I would have happily paid double if I could have magically made the elgrands wheel bearings come off with the disc😁. Nice to hear that its not just the Jag that has a few daft priced parts.

@@ToTheGarage £110 for a spurious M-B wheel bearing. £90 for two bearings with discs thrown in for free sounds like pretty good value to me! Incidentally, had some aluminium 30mm spacers made up for the XK8 as I’ve never been a fan of the fuselage inset look of the rear wheels on the earlier x100s. Nicely manufactured, perfect fit on the hub, looks great and I think they even improve the handling. £145 for 4. Bargain!

This is not a complicated job, but make sure you have a 36mm socket on hand before you start👍

I was told you cannot change the disks without replacing the hubs. Is what I am looking at on your video the hub which the mechanic would have referred to?

Hi Lorraine. You can't change the rear disc without changing the bearings as they are integrated into the disk. But the Hub is the short shiny shaft you slide the disc and bearing onto. That does not HAVE to be changed to change the discs. It CAN be. It would be quicker and much more expensive to do it that way though.

Thanks for sharing 👍😊💜✌️ Can I ask please, where did you purchase the new nut, lock ring and dust cap, is that main dealer only?🤔 My dad's needs doing, I told him that it's false economy to replace just the pads, the C3 Picasso rear discs always seem to score badly, not sure why, they seem worse than other brands that we've owned. A set of discs and pads are a must especially as the handbrake needs to grip well too. I was considering EBC black stuff and their basic discs so as to come up from the sketchy OEM quality.

Be warned you may need an impact wrench to get the hub nut off. Using a 36mm socket and breaker bar, no movement at all. Halfords wanted £800 to do all four wheels!

Why doesn't the disk rotate whilst you undo the bolts? How do you stop it just spinning, because the handbrake cannot be on?

Hi Dave. if you mean the wheel nuts, i loosened them while car was touvhing the floor. if you mean the hub nut, it tightens onto the stationary stub axle rather than the disc

Well thats about 12 hours work at £100 per hour even if we assume they are charging you £200 for the parts! It took me about 4 Hours and im an amateur. Thats an insane fee!

I would suggest that means that they don't really want to do it but are prepared to 'Give it a go' on your car

Halfrauds charged me £25 for a wheel alignment which they didn't actually do. Absolutely zero evidence of any activity having taken place around the track rod area! The only good thing to come from my consumer experience from their garage is that I've been pushed to teach myself car mechanicing for the past two years ;)
