A knife or flathead screwdriver will work but less of a chance to damage the case this way

@@sharknado523 the other videos on KZbin show brute force. This way is the correct way that Hyundai intended. There are actual tabs inside that fit the cut out in the key. You turn the key. Any video showing any level of prying is wrong.

I love how the key is used as the tool. Antoher video had you using a screw driver. Also, after replacing the battery, it took a few seconds it seems for the remote functions to work (maybe to charge things up).

@@PYR-Auto Tis perfectly solved the problem! And somehow, the battery that was in the remote was not fully seated! It was tipped up about 15-degrees. A good squeeze would have seated it, maybe that it why the remote was not opening the door but I replaced it with a NEW battery anyway (they are only about $5.00 each so, worth the peace of mind)

two videos I've seen on this both assume you have a rectangular shaped key. my key end is round and blunt so did not work at all to pry open. but that gap you used was the right place, and finding a thin metallic object to fit there, twisting it did get it open.

Thanks for the video. I changed the battery out according to other videos but the fob would not work. Yours was the first to explain that the plus side of the battery goes down, not up. I flipped over the battery, Wala it works! And no reprogramming at all. Thanks again good job.

Your dad must have a different type of Smart Key. Cr2032 button batteries are not rechargeable. You replace them.

Yes - the red light on the key fob should work with a good battery. The key fob should not need to be re-programmd after just changing the battery.

This an exceptional poor design. Same thing happened to me on two separate FOBs I opened for battery change. Lost one cap and spring completely and couldn't manage to reassemble the other. The key still inserts, but doesn't take a lot force to remove. Wish I had watched this video first before I tried to open.

My 2020 elantra luxury fob eats batteries. Put new lithium ion 2032 Energizer. 2 weeks ago..new from Canadian Tire. My low battery warning came on today on dash?? Just put another new one today... Key is never left in cold as weve only had -2 weather last 2 days...above zero otherwise..

Ok this is crazy I found this video on my computer through a simple Google search but search Google on my phone AND KZbin required me to type nearly the entire title. That being said there are so many BAD videos. The key is designed to be opened with the key not a screwdriver or knife or whatever else (prying with the key vs turning) so this is the only video that should be out there! I've done this a bunch of times but came back for a refresher. Because plastic.. One thing to note is the key needs to sync near the car. I had a battery from the last time I changed it on my other key a couple years ago and thought it may be dead cuz the remote didn't work. Walking up to the car there were no welcome lights but after hitting the door button all is normal.

The manual doesn't describe any of this and snapping it open with the key didn't work for me. Not a simple twist. I cranked on it pretty hard til it felt like I was going to break something so I stopped pried it open from the edge with small flat tip screwdriver.

Dollar tree may carry, I’m not sure. Most places that sell batteries will have them, the CR2032 batteries are very common
