There is a much easier way to make this correction without all of the contortions. Take a look at the KZbin video by VeryPink Knits called "Knitting Helps Changing a Knit to a Purl ". In that video she also shows how to correct a purl stitch to a knit stitch. I followed her steps and made that correction in a few seconds.
