I'm trying to knit right now, but idk how to do the purl it's too complicated. Do you have any tips?
@loubradly58482 жыл бұрын
@@Honey_Bear17 I went really slow when I first started knitting. When I watched this video I did the steps with Devina as she did them. I accidentally dropped the stitch a lot but I kept practicing. I didn't follow a pattern when I first learned either, I did 10 stitches across and continued that until I got the stitch down. So all I can say is go slow, keep practicing, and if you get really frustrated then it's okay to put your project down and come back to it. I hope that helps, you can do this.

The ancient world had such a deep respect for this art form, from the weavers of fate to Athena's contest with Arachne. It's even possible that one ancient Egyptian creation myth had Neith - the goddess of weaving - literally knit the world into existence. I loved the way you touched on that with the Roman Janus at the end.

Anyone else just trying to learn how to knit and thinking “How did people learn to do this?” Like at some point, some human picked up two needles or sticks or something, they put string or yarn or whatever on there in different ways and somehow figured out a way to perfectly weave it into things…. HOW? How did someone learn to do this?!

Trial and error. I’m sure at some point they stopped using literal sticks. Maybe they already knew how to weave using plants and went, “hey, how about we invent a more versatile form of weaving? Like, we can make different things with the same method?”

Lots and lots of trial and error, I imagine. We needed clothing, and we slowly learned what worked. Some things worked better than others, and those are what got passed on and taught. You do have to assume the ones who came up with it to begin with are the types who’d be engineers today, though. That required some abstract constructive thinking to an extent not everybody is capable of.

As if I didn't have enough hobbies already, I learned to knit a few days ago. I'm knitting chunky potholders I saw being sold everywhere. In lieu of 6mm rope, I'm using two strands of 3mm cotton macrame rope. It was my understanding that I'm doing a "knit stitch" but my stitch pattern looks like the stitch pattern example you showed at 07:00 in your video. My stitches look like that on BOTH SIDES. I'm a crocheter so I have no clue about knitting stitches but my potholder is coming along beautifully. The downside is that I want to learn more stitches! Great video.👍 Thanks for the inspiration! 😊
