in this video i show you how to replace the motor mount on a 2010 mazda cx-7. this job is pretty easy job but can be annoying finding a good quality part. i wound up having to return a total of 3 before i found a good one. to save yourself some headache you may want to buy one directly from mazda even though it is expensive. other than that if you enjoyed this video please give me a like, comment, share and subscribe, thank you!

If anyone is working on a first gen CX-9, the process is very similar. The key differences are that you have to remove the coolant reservoir (three 10mm bolts) and push it to the side. No hoses need to be removed and coolant can stay in. The CX-9 has four 14mm mounting studs instead of two 17mm. There’s also a small protective bracket which bolts to the side of the mount facing away from the engine. It’s held on with two 12mm bolts and it’s easier to take off and move to the new mount after the old one has been removed.

Thanks for the great DIY video. I noticed the three 17mm bolts have a couple different concentric rings gouged into the bracket. All three looks like the mount has shifted over time. Or could they have been loosened and then bolted back in slightly different positions? I looked at our 2010 and it shows the same situation. I thought maybe the dealership might have moved the mount while trouble shooting a bad mount. They told me this same motor mount needs replacement, but there are no signs of leakage. I may just replace it anyways, after all it's 14 years old. Brand new Mazda motor mount with replacement bracket delivered is about $120.

There is no torque loss with an extension as long as the extension is at 90 degree to your wrench. You only lose torque if you are wrenching at an angle less than 90 degrees.

Very good information. I have always thought there was torque loss with extensions. I looked it up and you are correct.

Thanks! My other motor mount video goes over that. In this one even though it was leaking fluid it still had some cushioning.

my 2007 model was slightly different. It had some metal block on the back of it that did not connect really to anything? I just didnt use it on the new motor mount.

Hmm I wonder what it was for? Did it look like it came from factory that way? I’m glad you got the new one on no problems though. Thanks for watching!

My 2007 is the same way! Just a black piece of metal bolted on the side of the motor mount. It doesn't connect to anything, it's just there. The one I ordered doesn't have one, but after looking online, I've seen others with it, but can't figure out why its different. I searched for both AWD and 2WD 2007 CX-7's, and most of the listings I've seen don't have it. I found some that do have the black thing, but nothing says why it's different, and both kinds with and without it are listed under the same year, make, and model CX-7, both AWD and 2WD. Did you have any issues after installing the one without? Did it cause any lights to come on the dash? I thought maybe it was a sensor, but not even Mazd's website says anything about the two variations.

@junkyard junkie Great video! 👍 Question: I’m on a road trip a couple hundred miles from home & any dealer. I just discovered the leaking oil. Can this wait until I get home in about 4 days? Also, when I go over speed bumps, I hear a slight clunk. Could that be caused by a bad motor mount or could that be some bushing? On my CRV it was the anti-sway bar bushing. Thanks 🙏
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
Yes you’re fine to do so. It could be a bad motor mount or like you said sway bar end links, lower control arms or a few other things. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

Hi Mr Junkyard Junkie, Can you please let me know if plastic cover on the top can be easily taken off and how? Can you also please explain what is the black rubber piece that you put back at 5:58, and what will happen if that rubber is missing? Thanks!
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 3 жыл бұрын
I’ll be honest I didn’t try to take the top off. But, for your question at 5:58 that’s a rubber dampener. So it essentially will help reduce vibration and possibly noise. If you do not put it on it’ll still be ok. Thanks for watching! Hope this helps!

Do you have any tips for removing and replacing the serpentine belt on the CX-7 - I'm looking at taking off the motor mount at this point out of desperation - hope there is an easier way!
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie Жыл бұрын
I believe the tensioner is near the bottom front. Pull on that and it will give you plenty of slack. Pro tip: when putting it back on use a smooth pulley. Because most vehicles don’t give you a ton of slack. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

I have a 2009 cx7 can i put a 2010 engine in my 2009
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 5 ай бұрын
Yes so long as it’s the same. So, I believe the 2009 only came with the 2.3l turbo charged. So as long as you get a 2.3l turbo charged from a 2010 they’re the same. Don’t get the 2.5l unless you plan on swapping out ecm. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

@junkyard junkie Great video 👍 Question: I’m on a road trip & I just now discovered that my mount has leaked a lot of fluid. Can this wait until I get home in about 4 days. I’m no where near a dealer so I’ll have to order the part. Also, when I go over speed bumps, I hear a slight clunk in the front suspension. Could this be caused by a bad motor mount? On my CRV it ended up being the anti-sway bar bushing. Thanks 🙏
@JunkyardJunkie
@JunkyardJunkie 3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! Ya so if the mounts leaking you do need to replace but it’s not an emergency. You can wait till you get back. As for could it be a bad motor mount that’s causing the clunk it defiantly can cause this. Easy way to check this, is hold the break and jolt the gas pedal this will put torque on the motor if you do this hear the clunk it’s defiantly the motor mount. If you don’t hear the clunk when this happens I would suspect like you said a sway bar link or lower control arm bushing or could even be a tie rod. But, let me know how the rest I said above goes if it isn’t the motor mount I’ll give you quick tips to see which other one is causing the clunk if you need it. Thanks for watching!

@@JunkyardJunkie I haven’t driven my car at all since we got back from our trip. I think I’m going to wait until I drive back to Texas to get this fixed. I can’t find genuine Mazda parts in Mexico 🇲🇽 & the closest dealer is about 2-3 hours away. I don’t hear any noise from the passenger side of the engine so I hope it will be ok for me to drive another 12 hours.
