Very simple, straightforward and to the point. Thanks for the help! I managed to change a tube which I had never done in 50+ years of riding. Mazon99 My experience: Walmart sold me a used tire of the wrong size in the wrong box so I returned it for a full refund. I then went to my local bike shop and they sold me a pair of correct tires, even better, upgraded from off road tires to street tires for only $5 more per tire. They even taught me how to clean my chain using only lubricant! Lesson learned, go to your local bike shop first!

Now I don't know whether this is a good practice. Tinker Juarez had a method where he would put a bit of talcum powder inside the tire to prevent the tube from sticking to the tire or chafing under extreme riding conditions. My worry about this is, is there a risk that the tire and tube assembly would spin on the rim causing stem damage? Because then it's not slip resistant. What do you think of this method?. I see you have the presta valve stem with a stem lock nut.

@garrettbirkel77509 жыл бұрын
Handy tip: If you get the tire almost all the way on and the last section is way too tight to get over the rim, you need to get more slack in the tire. Start at the opposite side, and go around the part of the tire that's already in place, compressing it and pushing the edges down into the rim so it gets as far in there as possible. You'll end up with more slack in the section that's not mounted, and then you can usually get it over the rim by pushing it with the edge of your tire lever. Now you don't have to be He-Man to get a tire on. :D
@Mazon999 жыл бұрын
Garrett Birkel Hi Garrett that's a very good and well described handy tip you are bringing to the table, thanks for sharing :)
@AncoraImparoPiper5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that helps, and also let out the air in the inner tube if it is too full it won't help. Next, stand up the wheel so that the opposite side of the problem area is standing on the floor. Push down to provide that extra slack and press in the rest of the tyre.

So, vid is straight forward. My first tire went on fine. The second doesn't look like the tire chord is seating properly into the rim near the innter tube valve. I can't seen to get it all the way down. New rims, tires and tubes. Suggestions?
@Mazon999 жыл бұрын
+Jared Lokay.... Hi Jared If your valve has a nut, then you should wait to screw the nut on the valve until the tube and tires are properly in place, maybe that was the reason !!
@jaredlokay9 жыл бұрын
+Mazon99 No, that was not it. the tire cord was not seating into the rim lip where the tube valve goes through the rim. I played around with it until it seated. There were no seen pinches or obstructions. I wasn't sure if it was a common issue with a simple technique to resolve, or if I should investigate a defective tire or rim.
@Mazon999 жыл бұрын
+Jared Lokay Great that you had solved the issue with simple technique,, it happens sometimes it can be tricky when the tire gets mounted in the area where the valve goes through the rim..

I saw u were using presta valve. Is it Presta valve is better use compare with Shrader?

Hi affan siru, I am very satisfied with using Presta valve, my experience is that they are very durable, I always buy inner tubes with Presta valve when it is about biking, road biking and mountain biking etc. Schrader valve info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schrader_valve Presta valve info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presta_valve Presta and Shrader valve: Presta vs schrader valves

I was trying to put a 26" tube on my rim, intended for 26" tire, and there was like 3" of slack. I thought they had sent me an irregular tube, or even the wrong size rim, but the tube does compare to a different 26" I had, and the rim does compare to another rim I had (22.5"), I'm so weirded out... Aren't tubes suppose to fit snug on a rim, before putting on the tire? Heck, mine wont even stay on the rim, flat, or full of air, it just falls off. I wonder what's up with that. I'm now thinking of trying a 24" tube, but can't find one that's self sealing, and with presta valve.

mef1975 Hi mef1975 thanks for sharing your story, hope you have solved the problem, maybe this chart/link can help: www.bikecalc.com/wheel_size_math

mef1975 OK. I find it easier to put some air in the innertube , just enough to take form , still very soft ,put the tube on first . then put the tyre on then inflate tube. The easy way is what works for you.

Can any1 answer this? I’ve currently got a rear wheel which is 29 x 2.0 (front wheel is 29 x 2.2) if I replaced the rear wheel with a new 29 x 2.2 tire would it work and would I also have to change the tube

Hi Sohail K, I have 26 x 2.25 rear and front and it is working fine, you can reuse the old tube..
