I've always used a grinding wheel to grind those rivet heads down and it hardly takes any time at all. Then I pound the rest of the rivets out just like you showed, only I use a store bought heavy duty punch that wasn't exactly cheap because I didn't think to make one that works just as well if not better like you did. Anyway, those old parts are just going in the scrap heap grind away at them and save yourself some time and effort. Another excellent video, thanks for taking us along with you.

I replaced one of the spring hangers on my 93 F150. You are right. That through bolt is the hardest part. I had to soak the nut in PB Blaster for days before it would let go. Don't want to wait too long to replace the hanger. Mine broke while waiting for the part to be delivered.

Another great episode Dave, that spring hanger sure looked bad, and nearly as beat up as your hat. I was a little concerned at first when I saw you putting your jack up on wooden blocks, but my fears were allayed when I realised that the wheels never left the ground. Always keep it safe, I have lost a few good friends over the years where the vehicle has dropped on them, the most recent was just a few weeks back. David in the U.K.
@cheapwheels98283 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that David. No, with this job you just need to take the weight off the spring. its really safe
@davidjones86803 жыл бұрын
@@cheapwheels9828 Yes Dave, i could see by the end what and why you had your jack up on blocks. But aleays remember to work safely, don't become a statistic. And always chock the wheels. I was under a car once when the hadbrake cable snapped, fortunately it rolled away from me. David in the UK.

Dave, could you use a step bit for those rivets after you drill an initial small hole?
@cheapwheels98283 жыл бұрын
Good question
@scottcates2 жыл бұрын
Negatron. Step drills are really only effective on either really soft metals, like aluminum or thin materials. Each step of the drill really should clear the backside of the material before the next larger step starts cutting.
