I don’t claim to be the smartest guy, but I had enough foresight to look up this video before trying to change my own combination. Sure enough the firs time I tried to change the combination neither the new nor the old combination worked. This helped out big time. Between this an other tutorial videos, I not only saved a &150 call to the locksmith, and possibly $1,000s of stolen property, but this also saved me the embarrassment of calling a locksmith after I screwed up and could no longer operate my combination. Thanks a lot man, and I appreciate people who don’t try to act like gate keepers with this type of knowledge.

THANK YOU!!!! I had a safe and the manufacturer did not want to even email me back when i inquired about the combo-The person died and their daughter had me get rid of the safe (with the door already unlocked and opened). I did not want to bother the daughter with a "hey whats the combo" email I knew the mom not the daughter. I got the key off Amazon and changed it with this video. The fact everyone wants to charge you for info is DEAD in today's age. Shared knowledge is the greatest thing about the internet. This video gave me a new safe.

How does he dial a 4-3-2 number rotation into the change index then a 3-2-1 on the dial index to open?

I changed my combination 4 years ago,... no problems. Then I couldn't get it open,....I tried for 3 weeks,......and it came open? Liberty sent me a new one. You turn it to 41 and it opens,.....but you couldn't get the key in to change it? So I aligned it till the key would go in and you could only turn it 3 revolutions from 50 to 50? I don't know its Liberty but says china? My old one had metal grindings in it?

When I did that,...the dial would only go around to 50 about 3 times? And I couldn't set a combination.

EBay... Search combo lock change key, take a good look at how the key is shaped, as there are many different change keys. If this is a gun safe or something, Have a good look at your documentation most manufacturers will slip a change key in the bag all the instructions came in

@@JohnGriner cant u just use a small drill bit.. is that y my wheels are not turning after i set the wheels to open with cover off but then i put cover on then stick drill bit in key hole but then wheels hit it when i try to spin to change comebo

if the vault is unlocked, go by this, if the vault is locked call a locksmith.

This may be a weird question, but where did you get your mounting board? I have an old unmounted lock I am trying to learn off of, and I can't seem to find anything like that for sale. I've searched and searched online but I can't find anything.

I was able to successfully mount my lock, but I have a new problem; when the change key is inserted in the lock, the dial will only revolve three times and then it stops and won't go any further. What do you think can be causing this? I should say it's a S&G 6730; or at least that's what the guy who sold it to me said, it has no markings on it. It's a very old lock, with flat head screws on the back cover and only one slot on the drive cam.

@@os4300 how many wheels does your lock have... You may have a 4 wheel lock, and in that case your change key may not be long enough.

Cool thanks i guess forgetting the combinations keeps your belongings safe for years to come not a bad idea if you have one with dropslots it could be like a great big heavy Piggy Bank lol being a pretty mechanical and handy guy i figured changing combos didnt always need a locksmith although how would a normal guy get a proper change key for their safe ?

eBay.. make sure, it is the proper shape for your hole there are about three or four different shapes currently in use.

I have tried this with a 3 wheel big red brand lock and something always hits the change key . Can you give some insight ?

take the back cover off, then insert the change key and turn it. watch the wheels, gates, and fence lever while you turn the dial. sometimes on older locks the fence lever will fall in the gates while attempting to set the combo. This will cause the lock to stop turning.

Question!! what if you only want 1 number combo on a dial? just set one and reset the key?

yes, start spinning to the left a bunch of times, then stop on the change mark for the number you want.... pull the change key out, test it (WITH THE DOOR OPEN, NEVER CLOSE THE DOOR UNTIL YOU'VE TESTED IT AT LEAST 3 TIMES.) should run open on the one number.......... if at the open mark you hear a click but the fence does not fall in. repeat the procedure but this time start off by going right a bunch of times.

After I put the key in the combo won't turn all the way .. I took the cover off checked it all out and the key goes in all the way but even if I don't turn it the dial won't go all the way around it hits something .. don't know what to do please help !

hi, my first guess would be that you have the wrong change key.... some locks have four wheels, on those if you try a 3 wheel key then the key wont go in all the way to activate the last wheel in change mode.... some older locks had special plates that kept the fence lever from stopping the wheel when the change key was installed, yours might be missing this plate.... you can take the back cover off, and turn the dial watching to see if the fence lever is falling in the gate and stopping the wheel pack.
