This is exactly what I needed. Good, clear close-ups of the actual real life items being used and the opening in the wall. Basically, "what it will look like when you get there having never seen it before". Really helps to orientate and get some confidence before tackling it as a noob. The naming of the neutral wire as "switch live" is kind of confusing, but I guess if that's what it's called, that's what it's called. I found this little definition on the web that might help other people as well: "The brown wire is Live (also know as permanent live), this brings the live supply to the switch. The blue wire is known as the Switched Live and takes power to the light. Switched Live is only live when the switch is on (this is where it gets its name from)"

When drilling a hole through a wall drill it on a angle ie slant it lower outside higher inside so no water can run into the house

What about when you have 3 com and 3 neutral going into a switch fitting? Can i cap off the other 2 wires or cram them all into the switch?

If the light switch has a plastic plate, but you have a metal backbox, do you need to have a flylead between the metal back box and the light switch? If so what type of cable is required? Thanks.

I'm changing my plastic switches to metal (with metal backboxes) and getting a load of conflicting advice. I've been told to do all of these: 1. Don't bother earthing the face plate because the screw touching the backbox will earth the faceplate. 2. Take the earth out of the backbox and put it in the face plate, leaving the backbox terminal empty. 3. Take the earth from the backbox and run it to the faceplate, and then add a new wire bridging the faceplate and backbox terminal. 4. The opposite of 3: Leave the earth in place in the backbox and then bridge the backbox to the faceplate. I would really appreciate some clarity if you can.

The earth wire should be in a wago or a connector. Block to carry the earth through to the next switch

the tricky part is doing the wiring on a two way or three way connection thats connected to another switch and runs off the old wiring system black and reds mostly for old
