It's as easy as 1, 2, 3...17, 19, hut, hut, hike. In this video, Danielle Ate the Sandwich shows you how to change the strings of a BARITONE ukulele. The baritone is tuned D, G, B, E. (Most soprano, concert and tenor ukuleles are tuned G, C, E, A.)
Q: How often should I change the strings?
A: At least once a year!
Q: What sort of strings should I use?
A: You should try a few types to find the ones you like. The ones I’m using in this video are fluorocarbon ukulele strings, found here:
www.myamoeukuleles.com/string...
Q: What do I need to change my strings?
A: Your ukulele, a set of new strings, a clip on tuner or online tuner, a wire cutter, an instrument stand or safe place to set your ukulele, OPTIONAL ITEMS: microfiber cloth, peg winder, awesome hat
Q: Which direction do I turn the tuning pegs?
A: D and G strings are wound counter clockwise
B and E strings are wound clockwise
Removing the Strings - 2:28
Tying the string at the bridge - 3:23
Which string goes where - 3:44
Winding the string around the tuner head - 4:36, 9:21
Tuning the new string to the right pitch - 5:48, 9:53
Clipping the excess string lengths - 10:19
Danielle plays a bit of her original song “We Were the Only Ones” - 10:55
Bloopers lol - 11:47

"We didn't get into playing the ukulele because we're scared, did we? We got into playing the ukulele because we're brave." That's exactly the encouragement I needed to change the strings on my baritone; I was a bit nervous about it after one of the previous set of new strings snapped on me for no apparent reason soon after I put them on. The uke sat in its stand for the longest time, daring me to change its strings again and to do it RIGHT this time. Found your video after quickly giving up on a British guy who was doing more to put me to sleep than inform me. You totally took the stress out of my string-tying quandary, and with new-found bravery, I was able tie and then wind my new strings--in the proper counterclockwise/clockwise directions, of course. Thanks, Danielle.

Today marks 1 year since I first started playing with the goal of playing every single day and I'm really happy I managed to do that. Honestly, learning how to change strings was so stressful - all the other tutorials I found seemed to breeze through how to actually tie the strings at the bottom but you explained it so well and I finally got it. This is my go to every time I get new strings, thank you so much!

You can also get a "tenor guitar" and tune it DGBE. I saw Neko Case last year, and she had an electric tenor Gibson SG. Never knew there was such a thing. Also try a set of Nashville tuned strings on your 6-string guitar. Options abound.

Haha! Good luck!!! The string game can change a lot - and if you're tempted to buy a new uke, try changing up the high G/low G situation or use alternate tunings. This is only advice if you can't afford new ukuleles. If you can, obviously buy them ALL, but if you're trying to pinch the penny, you can try some things to keep it fresh.

One thing about changing strings which you didn’t address is that if it’s been a long time since you’ve changed your strings it’s an excellent time to clean and condition your fretboard however you have to take all the strings off first. Rhett Shull has an excellent video about cleaning. I just changed the strings on my tenor uke and it gave me the opportunity to condition the very dry fretboard with lemon oil. Also, if you don’t have a wire cutter a nail clipper does fine clipping the strings in a pinch.

As for remembering which way to turn the tuner, as with guitars, the string always goes from the nut to the inside of the tuning peg. That keeps the line of the string over the nut as straight as possible.

@daniellesmagic
@daniellesmagic 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a tutorial for pin bridges, but I pull the pins out with a plier (and wrap a cloth around the pin so I don't scratch it) then tie 2 or 3 knots at the end of the string, stuff it in there, catching the bottom of the pin on the knot and pushing it all the way down. You'll fight with the tension as you tighten and tune the string, so I make sure to hold the pin with my finger and push in as I tighten the tuning peg. It might help to look up an acoustic guitar string changing tutorial - they use pin bridges!
