Just what I needed right now as I broke a string at a rehearsal this morning - before our gig TONIGHT!! Luckily I'd already got a set of the same Aquilas and with your help managed to get the new string on in time to get back out for sound check. Another gig in a couple of days so I'll change the rest before then. Cheers and great instruction! All the best from England.

Many thanks for the video Stu. I have re-strung my ukes before but this time decided to do my baritone along side you doing yours. I'm so pleased I did as I learn't a couple of things. Made it a whole lot easier.

Hello Uke mullum ! Thank you for this video. I finally got the courage to change the strings on my Baritone Uke thanks to you! ! However, it took me 3 full hours and a lot of patience ! All I have to do now, is try to tune it right which is not all that easy ! I really enjoy all your videos and really really like your teaching style, you make if really fun ! - Christine from Quebec, Canada !

So great to know I have helped you, Christine. All the best and good luck with your tuning.

Just a tip I learned: when you've tuned the strings, put your index and middle finger under the string and push the string with your thumb, from the bridge to the start of the neck and repeat that, back to the bridge and retune the strings. Then repeat the pushing of the strings and retune.

The baritone Uke can be tuned GCEA like the Tenor, Concert, and Soprano ukes. However, it requires a special set of strings. The first set of strings you had were the special set of strings. Most Baritone ukes are tuned DGBE. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT SET OF STRINGS FOR THE TUNING YOU DESIRE.

Thanks for clarifying Loren. Yes I was not aware at the time of making this video. Then a student showed up with her baritone in CGEA. I was incredulous!

There is nothing more scary than tuning a ukulele after it's be restrung. I changed mine tonight and was certain the strings were wrong as I could not get it to tune. So I cut them off...... Now I have watched this, I just needed to be patient. 😂 I was certain they were going to break

There are baritone gcea strings, it literally says on your package its baritone. im changing my new baritone to gcea since thats what im used to.

Yes I like the deeper tone for my baritone.
@koretmulder6316 Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I have new strings, I believe they are the same ones you're using here, except I don't think the package stated D-B-G-E explicitly, like yours did. It just said Baritone low D. This will be my first time changing strings on any instrument. I wanted to ask you if there was a particular reason for the order you chose for removing and replacing the strings here. I would have guessed I should just start at the top and work my way down, string by string...
@ukemullum Жыл бұрын
in the end, it won't make a ll that much difference. You won't break it.

I learned recently that you can get baritone strings that you can tune to the pitch of a standard ukulele, G C E A. I didn’t know that til a student showed up with her baritone set up like that.

Is that low D tuning? Thanks for the video with good advice.
@ukemullum3 жыл бұрын
I guess you could call it that. Mostly baritone is tuned linear from Low to High not re-entrant like a standard uke.

I still dont fully get what the tunings are 😢 is it D3 G3 B3 E4? Thats what the internet says, but yours are not tuned that way...
@pnevlud Жыл бұрын
I just changed over from Aquilla to ADdagio and I noticed the D seems very weird. I like the rest tho it’s Like it vibrates or something. Is this something normal. It sounds like it sends some vibrations through the hole of the instrument. Maybe I just to get used to the different tone? I almost hate it 😂 about to switch back

I'm no expert on strings though I hear some work better on others and there are many factors as to why.... tension, the instrument itself, etc. I know a guy who had went through many options before he found one that he was satisfied with. Best o luck!

Was I not supposed to the cut the excess string by the tuners until I had them tuned to the correct pitch? I had tightened them a bit but not the entire way, I thought we were supposed to leave it a little bit off. Since I cut them, there wasn’t enough string to keep on tuning. I’m new to this so I don’t really understand the physics of it but oh well Edit: what happened is that the strings came off and loosened themselves because I don’t think there was enough string by the tuners. Is that it? Did I cut it too early? Why isn’t it coming off yours? Lol
@ukemullum4 ай бұрын
Probably a good idea to get the string on it’s way before cutting
@TheBridget1953 Жыл бұрын
Should a learner when renewing strings and then trying to tune them. Tightening the strings so far and then leaving them overnight to stretch
@ukemullum Жыл бұрын
yes though it will still need a lot of playing in to stay in tune.
