Don't you have to wipe the bulb to get rid of your hand oils, so it doesn't overheat and burn out early ?

I took your advise and asked a mechanic friend who works for Toyota and BMW for over 25 years. He said he never heard of that being an issue.

I thought the same thing and I once replaced a headlight bulb for someone who said a mechanic had only just replaced it three weeks earlier. You could see his fingerprint burnt into the blackened bulb. I imagine the headlight bulbs get hotter than these though.
