How to change brake pads on BMW X5 G05 MSport

BMW X5 G05 with MSport package has got larger brakes. This video demonstrates how to change the brake pads on those cars. Only the front brakes will be shown here. The rear brakes will be shown when they are due. You don't have to remove the calliper to replace the brake pads. Just remove 2 retention pins and start pushing those pistons back. The brake sensor cable can be reused if not broken. Only the front left has got a brake sensor. This video is meant for DIY people. The tools that will be used are very basic. No specialised tools required for the job.

if you want to use less force on pushing the pads back, leave the cap unscrewed on the brakefluid reservoir. Dont forget to refasten after finishing the pads.

If you are doing your pads before message comes up be careful that the sensor doesn’t touch anything metal. If it does touch the rotor for example, you might get a message that you will have to clear with Bimmercode or via service centre.

I tried doing this today on my '22 xdrive40i w/msport brakes. I removed the two pins and metal clip, but the pads would not budge, could not pull them out!

I recall there was a brake low message when brake is due to replace. Does the iDrive auto reset this warning message, once the new pad are installed?
