Excellent, thank you! Wish there was a way to "ripple" for only the clip. What I do in those situations is to move the clip to its own track and lock the other tracks.

Thank you for this excellent video. Very helpful and well explained. I am finishing up an instructional KZbin video on cleaning a Fender electric guitar, changing strings and intonating and setting it up. I will use the change clip speed process as you have explained it for some of the more repetitive aspects of the process. The Ripple Sequence you detail is key to this. Other YT videos do not mention this. Thank you for being so thorough.

I speed up clips by 6000% a lot of the time. When that happens, frame rate of that clips is 2400 making huge performance impact on real time playback. How to stop it ?

Alex incredible level of details and precision! thank you for doing this! Just a question, I'm really curious about, how much you speeded up this video? I feel your speech are just a notch speeded up...

Thank you for your very kind words. Really appreciate you watching and then taking the time to comment. As far as speeding up the video, it’s not sped up. I am naturally a quick talker (apparently) and I think when I record videos I have energy and enthusiasm for the subject too. Also conscious that people have short attention spans so making sure people don’t get bored. 😂

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd Alex your gentle reply took to my mind my biggest interrogative, I'm Italian and my spoken English is near a medium+ level, I'm thinking to start a review based KZbin channel on all the things that I consider very interesting of today life, I'm thinking to do it speaking in English (for the bigger audience) instead of Italian, but I can't resolve my doubt being that I'm not totally fluent in the language, you think will make a great difference doing it in English or being that my English is not perfect I should do it in Italian?

Excellent, just what I wanted. Question. Inspector area speed change looks like it is greyed out. But it works. Under what condition does it not appear greyed out? Are there other such items that behave that way?

Thanks for posting this. It’s very helpful. Question…how do you get the original clip audio speed to match the newly adjusted speed of the clip? My clip speed slows, but the associated audio speed remains as original. Thank you

Hi, what I seem to be unable to find in DaVinci when you have material that for an example was shot in 50fps and you have a timeline in 25 fps and you want to have a slowmo effect and get these extra frames in. I have done this in premeire and there it just magically puts these frames in when you slow down the material but in DV when I slow down to 50% it doesn't seem to put these frames in and the material becomes jerky. Do you have a video on that subject?

Hello. I have a problem. So whetever methid I use to change the sped of a clip in the middle of a timeline, while using ripple timeline, as the clip changes speed and stretched to fit, it cuts into the following shot, instead of pushing the entire timeline forward. Am I doing anything wrong?

Using D.R. 17. When I try to change the speed of a clip, every clip after it in the timeline has it's audio separated and offset. It happens even when I have linked the audio to the video. The only way I have found to prevent this is to move the clip I want to change to the very end of the timeline, change the speed, then drag it back to it's original position. Has anybody ran into this? The frustrating part is it worked great for an entire editing session. I changed the speed multiple times, the clips after rippled into position with their audio in perfect sync. I haven't been able to make it work since. What am I missing here?

I have 3 clips stacked. One audio, i use a lavalier mic for better audio. started trimming. Split at the start and the end of the section. So all 3 clips are the exact same spot. When I speed them up to 1000% the clips end up not being the same length. Is there anything I can do.

Is there a way to change the "clip speed" and adjust the pitch of the audio "finer" than just checking the "pitch correction" tic box? I edit long dialog clips and often need to bring a long file with in a time frame. trying to squeeze it in. I noticed when i get about +10% speed increase the audio gets a little harsh and looses some of the rounder warmer voice sound. Any ideas

Hi Alex, while on vacation , i did not realize that my settings on my gopro was changed from video to time lapse. I tried changing the speed on powerdirector, but it looks like a fast timelapse (transitions were not smooth). On the gopro app they mentioned trying davinci. Any suggestions on how to bring footage back into video mode without choppiness between frames

I would love to see a video by you about using the Close Up key and Dynamic Zoom. When I have tried using the Close Up key on v16 free I cannot control the framing of the Zoom and it seems to mess up the following frames. There must be a fast clean way to Zoom in and out. I also would like to see some clever ways of creating more motion with a single camera. I film myself teaching yoga with a single camera. Thanks!
@AlexCameron-Depiqd3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for watching Gayle. Great idea for another video. The issue with the Close Up on the free version is that it’s not driven by the Neural Engine (as this is only in the Studio version). The NE automatically tries to frame your subject into the shot whereas this does not happen in the Free version - it’s just a 2x centre zoom essentially. You can control the framing in the Inspector though so it does help a lot as it’s automatically adding the additional shot on top and then zooming in for you. All you have to then do is pop on the transform overlay controls or open the Inspector and change the positioning to the framing you’d like. When you say motion with a single camera, do you mean you have a locked off wide and would like to zoom, pan and scan for some more dynamic interest? So you’d like to show the audience the zoom and motion of the camera rather than just cutting into a tighter or differently framed shot. Is that right?

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd yes I would like to know if there are other quick and easy ways to bring more changing views into my video that was filmed with one camera. Also you said that the Close Up works differently in the free version compared to the Studio version. If I add a close up sometimes I can move the in and out point, sometimes I cannot, depending on what is chosen in the upper left corner of the screen the close up option appears or disappears. I cannot figure out how to use the Close UP with predictability. Did this feature improve in v17? It seems to me that the Cut tab is useful for quickly marking part of your video to work on but the Edit page works better for making changes like Dynamic Zoom. I want to learn how to do things quickly because really I just want to use Zooming in and out for more visual interest, easy transitions, good quality sound and sharp color correct images. It seems to be taking me a long time to learn how to use Resolve and there seem to be a lot of different options to create the same effect. Like using Adjustment clips to Zoom or using the Key Frames to Zoom. It seems to me the Cut page does not have these 2 options.
@AlexCameron-Depiqd3 жыл бұрын
Hey Gayle, sorry I missed your reply. Quite a lot to potentially understand and explain in the comments. Might be worth us arranging a quick call/zoom if you'd like to discuss this in more detail. Sure I can help. Essentially though, you're right in that the Cut page is designed for speed and simpler edits/editing functions whereas the Edit page is more feature packed. That said the Cut page has a lot of power attached to it and the fact that in 17 they included a full Inspector panel like the Edit page, makes a huge difference. There are definitely many different ways to achieve the same result in Resolve generally but then I think you need to find the method that is right for your workflow. You may be interested in the new courses that I'm due to publish very soon too. These are very comprehensive and will definitely help with the learning curve. 👍🏻

Looking forward to the next video. A question though, I speed up my shots a lot for painting demos, and I was wondering whether the retime settings will make them smoother as well. Thanks

Thanks so much for watching. The next video is now up on the channel - kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZqonGqZe81nma8. Did you get a chance to see this yet? I'm sure the retime would help based on what you've mentioned. When you say "smoother" though, what exactly do you mean? Is that a playback thing or an aesthetic that you'd like to achieve? It could be down to how the clip was filmed too.

Hi, i am very frustrated. I do not know with has a problem in DaVinvi Resolvi or i am doing something wrong. My footage is in 60 FPS, i wanna transforme in 30 FPS to get 50% slow down, but when i open CHANGE CLIP SPEED the davinci resolve shows my current framerate as 30 fps and not 60fps as show in metadata in DaVinci Resolve, because this when a slow down 50% the framerate change to15 FPS. MY question is: is there a way to CHANGE CLIP SPEED to recognize that my clip has 60 fps and not 30? as i said in oher places in Davinci Resolve like METADATA recognize the 60 fps. I tested and my footage in CHANGE CLIP SPEED always shows as the same my timeline frame rate i set up in project settings.

Bois...🐋 If you're looking for how to speed up and slow down the PLAYBACK speed and not the CLIP speed, here's how: (For Windows -- sorry, I don't know what it is for Mac) Speed up forwards playback: Shift + L (Hold shift and tap L for increasing speed) Speed up reverse playback: Shift + J (Hold shift and tap J for increasing speed) Slow down forwards playback: K + L (Hold K while pressing L for forward movement) Slow down reverse playback: K + J (Hold K while pressing J for reverse movement) You can find these controls in the Playback tab in Davinci Resolve (top left of screen) Later boiiiiis 🐸🎺
