Hi! I just weave those in with a darning needle. I have a tutorial on weaving ends into knitted fabric here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3jLZqh4j6eIgpI If you're having loose loops on the sides, that's just a matter of making sure the tension is tight enough before you start cranking back in the other direction.
