There are some people with a lot of knitting videos out there but you aren’t really able to see what they are talking about making their teaching video basically useless. When I want to learn something I immediately search your videos because you clearly show your work during the explanation. Even doing slow motion and repeats. You are the best Norman! Thank you so much.

Note! :) well, the technique is almost the same. But you will have to work with a fresh ball IN THE SAME COLOR for every row you want the stripe to be wide. So it can become quite...fiddly and prone to tangle quite quickly.

Amazing video! Thanks so much for showing how to do the twist and weave on a purl stitch. That was by far the best explanation I have seen from anyone and will definitely give a go now :) Just out of curiosity, let's say that you were doing reverse stockinette stich, how would you get the tails from a colour change to end up on the wrong side?

that will be a bit more difficult to figure out, and to be quite frank, I don't have an answer for you. I would have to toy aruond myself and find a technique for that. Have you done anything with Faire Isle tutorials? I was looking through your KZbin channel but didn’t see anything. My grandma used to knit these jacket sweaters (mostly with deer on them) from, I think, kits from a place that starts with a M..M… but she stopped knitting and passed before I got serious about my knitting/crocheting journey. So I never was able to learn from her. I’m hoping to keep some family knitting traditions alive. My daughter is trying her first knitting project ( a cowl) at age 25 and I couldn’t be more proud of her efforts.

my channel is all about continental knitting. HOWEVER, you need to set away your yarn/needles anyway to join in a new ball. So, why don't you try to replicate this with your left hand...i mean, you are not knitting a single stitch here, just weaving things in, more or less. and then just switch your your normal way for the first real stitch.

@@NimbleNeedles Thank you- I will try it. I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be a pain, I could have sworn I saw you demonstrate both ways with another video. I can usually figure it out… but I’m used to the way you explain things and I watched done of these yesterday and it’s pure genius. The changing colors with the ribbing and doing a straight stockinette row. I was talking out loud to you- “That’s pure GENIUS!” I meant no disrespect. Thank you and hope this doesn’t wake you. 😉🙂

Fabulous instruction! I've subscribed. I'm trying to knit a rectangular shawl using 2 colours of 4 ply that has single alternating colour rows with 10 stitches of seed stitch for the edging. Unfortunately the edge is untidy as both colours end at the same edge to be carried up every 2 rows. Any tips on keeping it neat? Maybe I'm trying to do something impossible and I need to do 2 rows of a colour before changing but the alternating single rows of stocking stitch inbetween the seed stitch edging looks so pretty.

@@NimbleNeedlesI'll look out for it. In the meantime I'm going to try some swatches adding some of the options from your video on neat edges. Maybe the edge that's like an I-cord or just a neat stitch or 2 that looks like stocking stitch at the edge.

Just what I needed to learn! May I ask, do you have a bit longer nails so you can grip the stiches easier? I noticed my thumb gets kinda sore when my nails are super short🤔
@NimbleNeedles
@NimbleNeedles 2 жыл бұрын
Well, there are multiple reasons. First of all, I feel super short nails don't look very good. Then, I don't like the feeling of having short nails...it's kind of like...the sensation at the tip of your fingers gets reduced. And then, of course, as I do a lot of diy, having short nails will be very cumbersome, as picking up needles and that kind of thing becomes a bit..difficult :)

hey gina. Sorry, I don't do english style tutorials here on my channel :( BUT in this case, the method is exactly the same. I mean, it doesn't involve any knitting.

Just discovered your channel today! Your explanations are great! May I ask...when we change colours in garter stitch, say a scarf, how can hide the change at the end of the row? I have tried many different ways, but I can't the answer myself.

@@NimbleNeedles When I change the colour in the beginning, then knit one row and turn to continue. That last stitch of the row shows the change of colour...that's what I mean. How do I hide the change showing?

Norman, I love your tutorials as you know. Also, I want to purchase those gorgeous needles. I am looking for large stitch markers. I liked the large white that you showed in the vicuna yarn video. Can you give me ideas on where to purchase those? Thank you very much.

Thank you Norman helpful as always! What combination of techniques would you suggest for joining colours (one pair to another pair) when doing double knitting in the round?

i would probably do something like overlap and knit double or the russian join.

Hi Norman! I really enjoy your videos and am learning so much. I do have a question. I'm new to intarsia and the pattern switches from knit to purl when changing colors. I've watched your video on intarsia, but I didn't see you do that. Can you include that in a video for me, please.

i'm afraid I can't do personal requests. This video shows you how to change with a purl stitch. If you can't figure it out, kindly contact the designer of the pattern.

If you pull the yarn properly when completing the join, should you have a “bump” on the back that mirrors the bumps of the stockinette pattern?

you can anchor the tail a couple of stitches before and sort of weave it in as you go so you can slip it.
