How to change Deviation Setting on Kenwood TM-D700

VA3JPX, thank you. I have a Kenwood TM-D700 that I put into service today. Immediate audio reports were poor compared to my Yaesu FT2600M operating off a power supply. I was told the D700 sounds like "telephone bandwidth audio". I'll try your suggested adjustment and hopefully that will clean up this rig's performance. I'm surprised Kenwood did not address this on an otherwise well thought out transceiver. Again, thanks for the clear instructions. Jon - K6QVA

Why would I give credit to someone else, for a youtube video that *I* created from the ground up? Have you given thought that I did not know about the Yahoo article you are talking about? Do you know how I found out about this modification? It's called learning from reading the TM-D700 Service Manual.

I appreciate your video. I may have to try this as I bought mine off of an Online Swap Meet. It was working great then went dead a couple of months later. A local HAM electronics repairman Chis "The Bobcat man" found a bad solder job & fixed, but now everything was reset to factory, so I'm guessing that the former owner may have made the Deviation ajustment? The mic is so old that I may even try to open the mic opening a bit. Thanks!

Anyone that attempts to make this adjustment really should check the deviation limiter before putting your radio back on the air. Increasing the deviation may cause your radio to exceed the 5 KHz max deviation and/or cause the radio to hit the deviation limiter causing flattopping and distortion on the transmitted audio.

Hey Michael, I am not sure if it does. I would not recommend doing this mod on the 710 unless you can check in the Kenwood Service Manual first, to confirm that this is the correct way to access to the alignment menus.
