I was going to be lazy and drive my new truck to the dealer for the first 5000 oil change. But after seeing this im just gonna do it. The drive would have been 40 miles there and 40 back and 60 plus tax for oil change so I think I'll be saving some money doing it myself. Thanks man for the video.

Great video. Just bought my Frontier and was looking at the set up for the oil filter drain through the hole in the skid plate. I was hoping to not have to remove that so that oil didn't sit up on top of that pan and blow back under the vehicle. Looks like that is not the case, as I saw in your video at 6:53 that oil was indeed running out of the back of the skid plate. This probably wouldn't matter to most, but I'm a bit of a fanatic when it comes to my vehicles.

USA4011 I have a 2016 with the 4.0L V6 and automatic trans. It's a slimey mess every time. 45k miles right now, and I change it at 7500 intervals. Mobile 1 synthetic. The access hole is a joke. Its too small, unless you have hands the size of a three-year old. That shiny little tin drip tray under the oil filter is about an inch too short. The oil runs down all over the front suspension and all over the skid plate. It's running out the back and making a gawd awful mess. I cuss and swear every time. I did the transmission fluid at 30k. The stupid drain pan bolt is right near a cross member. Lying in your back, it's not easy to see from certain angles. It's a messy drain situation. Refilling the transmission is a JOKE. The dipstick is bolted down with a 10mm bolt. The filler tube is the smallest I've ever seen. It's like pouring ATF through a straw. I got 3.5 quarts when I pulled the drain plug on the transmission. I used Castrol Transmax Import Multi-vehicle. I read they make it for Nissan. It's Matic J. The manual says "S" or "J" if the "S" is not available. Rear differential is straightforward. 14mm Allen for the filler plug. 10mm for the drain plug. 3-3/8 quarts. I used Mobil 1 75w90 synthetic and a sparing amount of RTV sealent. Haven't done the brakes yet. They've always been spongy. It will throw you through the windshield if you stomp on the brake pedal, but in everyday driving they just feel sluggish and spongy. I don't know weather to stick with OEM quality or try aftermarket supreme quality. I don't want to ruin my rotors or calipers. Overall, it's NOT easy to work on. I'm expecting to have a whole new bunch of tools in the box by the time I make it through the brakes, belts, and coolent flush.

I took an empty apply juice bottle and cut and made an extension for the oil to run down from oil filter ; I have to hold it by hand but works good you might give that a try hope that might help

I'm confused on why you would fill your oil filter with oil
@martinkuliza
@martinkuliza 7 жыл бұрын
Trinity Gueho it's a filter so.. Understand what happens when it's on the engine and when all Filters are on the car Look at like this AIR FILTER - Air comes in from the front of the car from the atmosphere ... right ? the air obviously contains dirt particles.... so.. instead of having that shit in the car, we have to use (Chemically speaking ) a FILTRATION PROCESS. hence a paper like or similiar substance is used with fine holes in it (like in high school when you use Filter Paper in Chemistry) this is used in an filter to allow air to pass but to not allow Dust to pass by FUEL FILTER - you fill your Fuel tank up, and we all know that the fuel that is delivered to the fuel station has Metallic Deposits and shit in the bottom and this will enter our fuel tank because the tank at the station doesn't filter the fuel before delivery into the car. so.. Fuel filter is found to be fitted to the Fuel tank, Pressure will suck the fuel out of the tank VIA THE FUEL FILTER the fuel filter contains a similar substance, that has holes that let's fuel pass but not the rubbish. and the clean fuel goes to your engine if you don't change your fuel filter or don't have one, Your engine gets full of shit and it's life will be reduced. OIL FILTER - works the same way the Oil in the Oil Sump will flow through the Oil Filter to filter out shit going back into the engine and (as is the function of oil. it is to LUBRICATE THE ENGINE WHILE RUNNING) it filters out the crap and allows for maximum lubrication so... why do you fill up the filter (now. i'm not a mechanic, but i do know this) Look at is as a METHOD OF CONDITIONING THE FILTER let me give you some examples if you have a coffee grinder, YOU NEVER switch it on without coffee in it (this is called Garnishing the Grinder). the Coffee provides resistance so that it's not grinding Metal on Metal if you have a coffee machine that you just cleaned, you always BEFORE MAKING THE FIRST COFFEE after cleaning. Run a full shot of coffee through it this is called Garnishing the Machine now, a person could argue that .... it's going to have coffee run through it anyway (and .. there's a long story here, ) but, Just call it...... PROFESSIONALISM and PROPER PROCEDURE NOW, to get off coffee let's look at Vaccum Cleaners, they also have Air Filters (aka the Bag with the holes) it's good practice when you buy one to switch it on and check for good suction essentially, YOU'RE TESTING IF IT'S DOING IT'S JOB PROPERLY get it now back to the oil filter YOUR QUESTION WOULD BE What's the difference, why not just put it in dry and let the oil go through natually THINK ABOUT THIS is it better to have the filter conditioned and Ready to go or not to also if you put it in dry, THERE WILL BE AN INITIAL PERIOD OF PRESSURE WHERE ONLY AIR GOES THROUGH THE HOLES Now consider, what is more dense, Air or Oil (again, i'm not a mechanic, but i am an engineer) i could argue that Air rushing through the oil filter could widen the holes, hence letting more shit get through as opposed to conditioning the Oil Filter with appropriate oil with the right Density and Viscosity and having the oil pass naturally through the filter material and HAVING IT DO IT'S JOB BEFORE IT'S PUT UNDER PRESSURE the other side to this is You can probably put it in dry and get away it... SURE but, this is why there is a difference between A D.I.Y. JOB and A TRADE STANDARD JOB (Professionalism) you can wing it, or DO IT PROPERLY AND PROFESSIONALLY. The industry and the manufacturer of the filter recommend that you condition the filter before use THAT'S WHY DOES THAT MAKE MORE SENSE NOW..?

Filling the filter allows oil to circulate to the moving parts of the engine a few seconds faster the first time you start it after the oil change. It may seem like a small thing, but I think it is important, and protects your engine that much more.

Does anyone know if the filter locations the same for the 4 cylinder frontier? I have a 2018 and the dealership left my airbox unlatched on my second oil change. I do not trust them anymore..
