How to change fork oil on the KTM 500 EXC-F

This is the 2017 KTM500 EXC-F with the WP MXMA 4860 upside down fork. Just an oil change.

Good information, enjoying your videos. Question regarding ECU mapping in Australia: Here in the states we need to richen the fuel mapping because the bikes are so lean when imported. Do your bikes come with the European mapping?

Wow. I didn't know they run an open cartridge fork.. I always thought it would be a cartridge type. My SWM 500 runs the old KYB 48mm, not too bad for the ride, will need to put in a set of 0.48kg due to the safari tank. did you do springs rates on yours.

How often do you have to change the fork oil? I know allot depends on how you ride but generally speaking

Generally speaking I'd say every 12 months.

Great video, would replacing the 5wt with 2.5wt soften the forks up more for slower technical riding?

Hi Keith, I noticed in your video the fork spring nylon washer/spacer came out after you removed the spring so it sits between the fork spring and spring support. It looked like when you reassembled you had the nylon washer at the top of the spring under the fork cap. Was that the case and have you had the forks apart since and was there any damage to the fork spring support? I just got a 2019 350 EXC-F and the spring washer was missing altogether in 1 fork however the fork oil was brand new so I suspect the previous owner replaced a seal before he sold the bike and forgot to put it back.

gee you are observant. It was a while ago but I remember thinking at the time I was putting them in differently to how they came out.. must've been a reason! I also vaguely recall that they differed each side somehow? Like a washer was missing? Sorry I really can't remember. :(

Safest way would be to reinstall however it came apart

Yeah, cheers for the video, just done mine. Mine had 2 nylon spacers on rebound side. 1 spacer on compression side. It was set up my a suspension guy for racing. Spacers at the bottom of the spring.
