Hugely useful and clear thank you. I switched from an iPhone 6S Plus (last model to feature 3.5mm headphone socket for high quality headphones) to a Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus on O2. O2 love to heap on the additional charges with emoji previously free for me via Apple's Messages now £0.47p as charged the same as photos MMS. So my bye bye Apple stance could have been rather expensive but O2 to their credit have cancelled these initial MMS charges on my monthly account though it took two attempts as my pre PAC mobile number also had additional MMS charges!

I have an Android 8 2018 it has never ever sent or received messages by SMS or in MMS versions it's always been set to automatic and I've never had an issue. Then 1 contact had Chat settings option on his profile and everything changed. I applied your suggestion from video and it's been a nightmare ever since. Eventhough I put everything back to Automatic my messages are still messed up. I now have to put data on to text. Never had this issue. Can we resolve this please? I just want my message app back to normal. PLEASE

The problem i'm having at the moment is , when i try to send an msm , i get told by the phone to change to automatic, i then do so, but i find that when I send a text that alot of my words are being changed to something else , i try changing it back to the word that I WANT & it just goes back again , abit like predictive text , but ive got that switched off, how can I get around this ? It's driving me insane .

lori thorpe Hi I believe when the Mode Set to Unicode, it is able to send text as other languages as arabic or chinese or special letters that ha ve other complexies.. but it will send it as MMS and Not TXT messages, because of the special letters. So when you want to send a message with special letters... I suppose the mode must be Set to Unicode.

That is because some languages In This type of Samsumg does not support all languages in this GSM mode.. there you habe to set the mode to Uni. And though only MMS.. sorry..

Didn't work for me, still send as MMS :(... Happy those for who it worked ;D. But I have solution for mine: Do not write longer then 450 sign as it will send txt within 3(3x150) sms and after that convert into MMS

Tried it, doesn't work. I can still only write 3 txt messages and if it is longer it gets converted. Setting the GSM alphabet only strips the diacritics from the text, so instead of ěščřž it sends escrz. This changes the possible length on one message from 70 characters (when using unicode) to 160 characters (when using GSM alphabet). The result is that you can write 480 characters (3*160) instead of 210 (3*70) but it is still only 3 messages. If you write more, it gets converted, not to mention that writing without diacritics in my language makes you sound like an idiot.

I Dont know what to say... the Input Mode choise must be there.. other Phones S5 have it. The only thig i can tell you is to Back up your phone on the cloud or PC. And make a total reset of the phone to Standar Factory settings. It will then update your phone with the latest software and maybe set it up as it should be. But one thing is maybe bad.. that the new software is propably going to slow down your Samsung S5.

When choosing unicode inside settings for messages (found under mesages/ settings/...same place as the gsm alphabet) you can send a txt msg with different characters than english letters.. ex arabic.. urdu..etc.

So that maybe a hump or a problem .. so you need to change back and forth when choosing eastern oriontal languages!
