This video shows how I changed the oil & filter on my 2016 Suzuki GSX-S1000F without taking off the fairings. This makes changing oil much easier and most could change the oil and filter this way themselves without going to the motorcycle dealer.

I normally grease the rubber gasket on the fresh filter with some of the new oil before i mount it to make sure that the seal is tight. Just a little advise for the viewers :-)

If you use a 67mm oil filter cap wrench, no need to remove any of the fairings. I change my GSXS1000F’s oil in 20 minutes.

Hey Moto. I just had my front sprocket changed to a 16 tooth instead of the factory 17 tooth. It really makes the bike feel better down low. Much torque. My favorite and cheapest mod so far.

Did it this morning. No problems. New filter and fully synthetic oil. I've only had the bike a week it's a 2015 only done 8000 KM . When I get a new bike the first thing is a filter and oil change. Fitted a buzzer to the indicators too. But I just got to work out to fix the single head light !!! It shouldn't be that difficult a job.

Hey moto merica and David mcpeek!!!!!!! You guys need to check out dale walkers KZbin channel (he owns holeshot performance) he's a Suzuki ex racer and tuning guru, he just bought a personal gsx-s1000 and he's already had it on the dyno and has logged like 70 plus runs and he found out that on idle and cruising with light throttle that our bikes run lean then wide open and mid throttle the bike runs a little rich! Dale said that's why we have the jerky throttle response and is working on his own tune with his pro tuner that he will have for sale! I'm gonna buy one as soon as he realeases it, cause I've had his parts on a 1997 bandit 600s and a 2008 bandit 1250s that I had (before I wrecked it) and his parts worked flawless and performed great😊

Enjoyed and used your clips before. Good tip here but for the life of me I could not remove the oil filter . Wish I could see how you did it... I now ordered a different tool , mine had a long handle I guess, but I would try the 3 JAW one and report if easier.

Hi Motoamerica, I just bought an ex demo gsxs1000 and was thinking to do the first oil change myself. Did you have much oil get on the headers? That's the thing I am most worried about. Looking forward to your new videos. Lol at the people complaining about the throttle...I guess they all rode 125cc bikes before lol.
@MotoMerica
@MotoMerica 8 жыл бұрын
haha... yep the throttle does not bother me either. When I changed the oil without removing all the fairing not too much oil got on the header. What I did though is warm the bike up. Then drain the oil from the pan. Then I let it cool down so when taking off the filter the oil did not hit hot headers. The Simple Green took all the oi off very well but I did use 1/4 bottle just to be sure. Good luck - let me know how it goes.

+MotoMerica Hey man I just finished my first oil change. Only took me 3 hours lol. Hardest thing for me was getting the original crush gasket off the drain plug and getting the original oil filter off. Whoever installed mine at the factory must have been having a laugh as it was on there so damn tight. I had to end up using the old screw driver through the filter trick. Heaps of oil on the headers but I used a bio degreaser and it all came off. Much easier for me on my naked 1000 than your F I think. Thanks man.

Good 'trick' with the fairing, although to be honest, I not only prefer to use the manufacturers filters (especially on a new bike like yours) but, you shouldn't use the nut on the filter to tighten the filter, only to undo it...not a criticism, just for your info...

Wondering your opinion on the snatchy throttle. I've seen in other reviews when driving at low rpms (like in the city) the throttle seems to have an on/off feeling making it a little annoying to control. It's not smooth. I've watched one KZbinr install a PCv in line that completely fixes this problem. Cheers
@MotoMerica
@MotoMerica 8 жыл бұрын
Well I understand what they are referring to. It is very responsive. I mean all throttles have a point where they are "off" and I guess it could be a problem for some as the "on" on this bike is like "bam" torque on demand. I've been riding for many years and I enjoy the throttle. However, as I break in the bike I noticed there is more slack now in the cable and adjusting the slack is part of the 500 mile service recommendation. I will be doing that next and make a video of how-to. Like I said it does not bother me but I do feel what they are talking about. It may get better when I take some slack out. I have also heard that a PCV makes it much different. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

You need an ECU re-flash and it will take care of the problem. Snitts racing does this if your interested

Tried it like this (not removing the fairing) and broke the side piece on the fairing...…GRRRRRR! I'm doing the second oil change at this minute and realize the fairing removal is very easy. It all comes off as one piece (everything in front of the handlebars). 4 bolts and 1 push pin at the bottom. Remove inner fairing trim panels up top (both sides). Remove 1 bolt on each side by the gas tank (you'll see it after you remove the top trim panels). Remove the two long bolts at the gooseneck. Unplug wiring harness on right side, pull the fairing from the 3 grommets on each side and WHOOOLLAAA!...…..Pull the whole fairing forward and off the motorcycle......You're welcome....lol!

You should never use the nut on a filter to torque it down, that is only for removal. Using it to tighten can cause the spot welds to fail and the filter casing will fail and blow all the oil out. It happens a lot with k&n filters. Owners manual states to turn the filter til it touches the motor, mark top of filter, then tighten 2 full turns with filter wrench. I advise against using any filter with a nut welded on. A friend of mine had a k&n fail at the nut weld while he was riding on the track and it put him in the gravel. His channel is throttle lock TV and he's got s video posted of it.

Would love to see a video of how to take off all the fairings, looks like a pain.
@MotoMerica
@MotoMerica 8 жыл бұрын
Yes I stared to do it but I don't think the snap in fasteners can last repeat disassembly. I would worry about things getting loose and rattling. If you try it just take your time and study the arrows in the manual that show which direction to yank on to get the parts to separate.

I know it says to torque your oil filter and drain plug but please don't, that's just something they put in their manual to cover their ass instead of saying handtight, because people will just barely screw it on and blow oil everywhere. Hand tighten oil filter. Done. Hand tighten drain plug with new crush washer then do a 1/4turn with wrench. Done. You absolutely do not want to be stripping drain plugs and having to stab oil filters with screwdrivers every time you need to get them off, it's just unnessecary
