You can place a copper penny between the clutch gear and the spinner gear to hold it in place while taking the spinner bolts off. Same thing for tightening, just place the penny on the bottom of the gears.

Ok.......I just wanted to mention that the way you did the oil change is the correct way to do it, most people just drain it out the bottom and fill it up on the top, that's not the correct way to do it so good job don't beat yourself up over that stupid gasket you did a great job.👍

My 2019 Grom manual recommends the engine oil strainer screen and centrifugal filter to only be cleaned when it gets to 8000 miles. Just engine oil at 600 miles.
@umaxen0048
@umaxen0048 4 жыл бұрын
The oil strainer and centrifugal filter? Too much BS... Just use a tiny spin-on on oil filter. I've seen filters that are 2" diameter and 2" long. With a spin-on, you also have a measure of safety by not having to remove an oil screw and continuously torque it. The spin-on has a nice rubber gasket...

I just take mine to a Honda garage for oil change. For $2 extra for labour there's not much incentive to do myself, especially as I would have to do it on the street - but it is always good to know just in case and to understand about the engine. I have done a few thousand miles but don't remember seeing the mechanic ever doing anything else but draining the old oil and putting new stuff in. Definitely no new gasket or new seals; probably they only change them when it is really necessary.

Automotive oil has friction modifiers designed to eliminate friction, the wet clutch needs friction to transfer power from the crank to the transmission. You don't have to use honda oil, just something with the proper motorcycle rating (JASO MA).

Good video. I caught you tightening the drain plug at first. Rookie mistake, but veterans still do this on occasion and we feel like idiots. LOL A knuckle (also called a universal), swivel sockets, or wobble extensions would probably make this job easier in the future. You have a much better style than the "Yo, bros" that try to be cool. Those are far too common in the Grom community, especially on KZbin. Thank you for the good and honest video.

Holy Smokes! Is this a regular oil change? Or are you just doing it out of the ordinary for your own personal satisfaction? I kinda doubt this is what’s recommended by Honda if it is so, it’s more com0licated than a ktm lc4 engine or a usual competition engine. I thought the whole thing for an entry level bike is ease of worry and ownership since it’s also has the sam3 design as the original cub engine.
@NicheRiding
@NicheRiding 6 жыл бұрын
this is exactly what they recommend, many people dump the stock "spinner" for the kitaco oil filter setup instead to not deal with this hassle anymore.

i dont know who you meant by "they" but i kinda doubt the procedures you did is even in the grom manual. but you obviously know what you are doing its a mis title in your part though for just an oil change. i hope your bike runs better after what you did.

i have owned bikes with no oil filter and i never opened the crank case nor it was suggested in the owners manual, so i never bothered. i am also not mechanically inclined, i guess if you can do it and know what you are doing. its just going overboard in my pov. BUT if this is what is suggested in the owners manual for the grom then its just seem more complicated compared to regular bikes. the engine from the looks, is lifted from those honda cubs.
