If you're thinking about buying a Honda Grom (MSX125), then this is the review that you have to watch! I will go over everything you need to know about this little bike in the ONE year that I have owned it!
I'm a big fan of long-term and real world reviews over first impressions. The Honda Grom is a bike that's easy to fall in love with after watching KZbinr's like Fooligan and his epic wheelies. But how is owning the Grom after spending the money and going past the honey moon phase? I give you guy's a complete owners review, in-depth walkaround, and riding experience with my 2015 Grom. I talk about modifications for the bike as well as show you the stock features of the bike that it comes with new. I also talk about the top speed, reliability, maintenance costs, and insurance/payments, etc.
Buying a Honda Grom isn't what I would consider cheap. So how does it make for a good first motorcycle? I give you guys my thoughts about dropping the money on a new Grom and whether it MAY or MAY NOT be the right bike for you. The Grom makes for a great stunt bike, mini-track bike, or just an all around commuter. The gas mileage (MPG) is ridiculously good. It may be a goofy looking pit bike on steroids, but with the right mods, it can look awesome!

wanting one of these for my small painting business. unsure but...going to attempt a pull behind trailer. I feel like ill be riding it mostly slow & off to the side like my 40mph e-bike anway, so to be cautious of rough roads & crazy drivers. ill see if exhaust can be any more quite. speed is dangerous, been hit before. rear sign, go around, your on camera.

You can still scrape the paintwork... and if a bouncing stone can make a dent to a car door, I should think Grom would... Yes, it is a small bike but it's not a toy, no matter how much you would like to think so. It's simply a city bike, where even 600 cc engine would be an overkill: I can keep up with a 1000 cc bike with my Grom during rush hour traffic and spend a fraction of the money for gas! Better still, I can squeeze through narrower gaps at traffic lights with my little bike (it's almost as narrow as a bicycle) to get near the front and leave you standing at the back of a 100 yard queue. In my town lanes are not particularly wide and cars may well drive between two lanes so lane splitting does not get you far. The average speed is about 20mph an hour on a quiet day: I have never been able to test how fast the bike can go - so riding anything much over 125cc bike is just stupid.

Great review. Really the point everyone has to understand is what is the purpose of buying a low cc bike. I got my 2017 grom brand new, a few months ago and I absolutely love it. I've not owned a bike before I bought my grom but I've experience riding 600cc sport bikes and 1200cc cruisers. And to be honest I was not looking for power, I was looking for something to get my mind off work and life in general. Many people told to get at least a 500-600 cc bike and that I would be bored fast with 125ccs. But I haven't got bored with it. I love the fact that I take it anywhere and not get in trouble with the cops lol. Groms are fun when you really love it and understand it is not all about power in a tiny bike.
@ALLDAYANTHONY
@ALLDAYANTHONY 7 жыл бұрын

I put that many miles on my Radpower electric bike a year and go many miles off road too. And I have had it since 2015 with no problems. Added a extra battery to go further off road ( live in North West Arizona , lots of dirt only a few miles from town ) up to at least 80 miles and no insurance can use bike paths and so quite can sneak up on wild life. And , I am 75 and sold my motorcycle 6 months ago and will never go back. And keep your comments to yourself if you are under 75. Two wheels are the way to go. Trump 2020

LMAO trust me, going from a 1970 Chevy K20 and driving 60 miles total for a daily work drive (To and from added up), you do save enough money that makes the grom's gas mileage amazing. I am surprised that is the case, or more so the rest of the EU haven't taken to this. in England you can pretty much mod as you please with a bike and and not a lot happens in regards of insurance. Where as cars. anything other than a cut and shut and the only thing you risk is taking your insurance through the roof! I rode a Grom and a Monkey. They were the slowest bikes I have ever ridden! It is the only motorcycle I have ridden where you turn the throttle and NOTHING happens! They remind me of those go carts that you rent and race on the track. They are governed I think for about 10mph and when you push the gas pedal it takes them about 5 minutes to think about moving. IMO, the Grom and Monkey are ok around the neighborhood or on country rural roads, but I wouldn't feel comfortable taking them on any highways or major roads where the speed limit is over 40mph. If you tried to merge in front of a car or a truck, you are going to be road kill! Forget highways! Why buy a 9hp motorcycle and soup it up to 15hp when you can just get a 300cc and have 35hp for a little bit more? They are are for pussies and kids that are afraid of a real motorcycle. I had a Honda 300 CBRR that I sold because it was too slow to stay with traffic, and it was over stressed on the highway because you are running near redline all the time. They are unsafe IMO in most situations because you can't avoid accidents because on insufficient acceleration.

Well, I look at it this way. Riding a slow bike to its max potential is more fun than riding a fast bike slow. I've owned three bikes before. A CX500, a CBR600F4i, and a DRZ400SM. Hands down, the DRZ was the most fun. It was just fun to dick around on as well as a good commuter. Right now, my main mode of transportation is a bicycle, so a Grom would be great for when I need to go longer distances. Also, it looks fun as hell to dick around on.

You focus too much on cost and money. It's the epitome of fun on 2 wheels for just $3500! You can't take it with you when you die, it's worth every penny. And finance the damn thing... for just 20$ a week, that's the most fun and easy way to build your credit.
@ALLDAYANTHONY
@ALLDAYANTHONY 7 жыл бұрын
+Caleb Gordon I focus on money because you definitely can have more fun for 3500 bucks. You can pick up a used r6 or even a full sized sumo. I'm not saying the Grom isn't worth it for some people, I just try to make sure I'm not tossing an investment away.
@calebgordon9241
@calebgordon9241 7 жыл бұрын
I hear ya, but as a Honda Powersports salesman and proud financier of a 2018 Grom, it's a cheap way to build credit (because you need that nowadays to have anything nice) and good for those who don't have $3500 in there pocket. I'll admit a sumo would be awesome but again if you don't have 3500 to spend all at once, you cant finance a used bike. And if you pick up a R6 for $3500, you'll be sinking another $3500 into within the year in repairs, I see it everyday. To each his own, but unfortunately you can't look at a bike as an investment because like all vehicles they depreciate in value everyday. It's all about the fun!

In UK you cannot drive a bigger bike than 125cc even after you have passed a test; for people under 19 (I think) there is a category A2 driving test that limits you to drive bikes up to 500 cc and only "proper adults" are allowed to drive 600cc + bikes after passing category A test... So the power of Grom is maximum you can drive anyway before taking a test, regardless how old you are. I still wouldn't get Grom as a first bike simply because the transition to proper sized bikes may feel daunting and take time to adjust. Even jumping from 125cc semi-automatic Suzuki Viva (in Asia: lower seat and feels more like a bicycle) to more modern Suzuki 250cc feels a little bit of a jump. Having said that, I will buy either Honda Grom or Kawasaki Z 125cc because I never got round taking a test and here in Cambodia it's the biggest bike I can drive without a licence - those two bikes are the only options of fully manual bikes for a reason. Congestion is a big problem in many cities and gear change every couple of minutes, sometimes in less than a minute is a pain when you have to have your wits about: bikes and sometimes even cars can literally come from all directions (including against the traffic on the wrong side of the road) and following traffic laws and stopping at traffic lights is optional. Grom seems like a perfect bike for a city, especially if you are short like me.... But I still beat motorbikes to the front of the queue most of the time because I can squeeze through narrow gaps with my bicycle that any any other bike. Of course the motorbikes will soon drive past me but I will catch them again at the next traffic lights.

I personally feel that a 650cc bike as a first bike is a death sentence for most folks. I learned to ride, mopeds as a kid, then 50cc Honda's, 80cc, 125, 250, then jumped to 750cc when I had plenty of experience. I feel this would make a great first bike for anyone under 200lb and under 6ft tall. Good review though, thx for sharing. Peace.

Maybe a death sentence if they have no training and immediately try to start riding in areas acting like they are experienced. However, that would go for anything on the street, regardless of the cc. With proper training classes and discipline though a 650 class (such as FZ-07) is a great beginners bike. It’s what I started on.
