Did a 4 inch RC lift. Then cut the fenders just like you did in one of your earlier videos! 35s fit like a glove!!

Nice video, I currently live in San Diego and do 2 year oil changes on my low use vehicles, also using Mobil 1 High-Mileage (for old cars, not high mileage oil), but these vehicles only do about 500-1000 miles or so per year plus the mild weather causes less issues with oil condition here. This is on my Ranger 4.0L & Lexus ES300. If I was doing 2,000 miles or more per year, I would probably do it annually. On my Ram Rebel, I use Shell Rotella Gas Truck synthetic 5W-20 annually (4,000 miles), my Crossfire is Mobil 1 0W-40 annually (2,500 miles), my SV650S bike is Motul 10W-40 every 2 years (1,000 miles), and Toyota C-HR is every 6 months (4,500 annually) do to free maintenance program.

My '95 4.0L Ranger gets Havoline 5W-30 High Mileage Synthetic Blend about every 6 months or 4,000 miles (I put on 8-10k miles per year mostly in Minnesota/Dakotas). I've used Purolator PL30001 (Motorcraft FL1A equivalent) filters for about 10 years, ever since I saw someone on youtube cut them open and compare construction, filter media, etc. I like the Havoline because it's inexpensive at Walmart, and comes in a 6 quart "box-wine" style reduced waste packaging. The 6qt is nice, because I can put in 4.5 quarts in the change, add 1/2 quart additive, then have 1.5qt oil + 3/4 cup additive for topping off every few tanks of gas. I've been experimenting with different additives to limit valvetrain wear, cold start, and oil consumption.

Does your truck burn oil? I haven’t had to add any oil between changes on this truck. My subaru drinks the oil tho. I need a quart every 4000 miles or so before it’s due to change
@rhekman

@@rayregnogarage It does burn oil (a little less than a quart/1k), but the motor has over 300,000 miles.

My '19 4runner gets Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and an STP extended life filter every 10k miles (I drive her a lot so that happens fairly often). My '01 Ranger gets STP conventional and a standard STP filter every 5k (which happens probably every 6-8 months). Both vehicles seem happy.

On our newer vehicles I use mobil 1 and K&N or Mobil 1 filters every 5k miles or 6 months. On our 1985 Jeep CJ7 with a rebuilt 258 I use Shell Rotella and Lucas zinc additive, K&N filter every six months. We don’t put many miles on the CJ. Even so, every oil change I need to check bolts on the manifolds, valve cover gasket and oil pan. I can’t remember the number, but the owner’s manual for the Jeep says it actually consumes a quart of oil every few thousand miles and to keep it topped off. I need to be better about that because whenever I drain it, there’s considerably less than I had put in! 😬
@rayregnogarage

I did that once with my xterra. Drained way less than I should have once. Hope it didn’t do too much damage.

Ray, regarding your oil seepage, I'd maybe check the oil filter mount adapter on the side of the block. There are large & small o-rings on the adapter face, and on the hollow bolt that fastens it. On my Ranger, those o-rings had become square and very hard after 25 years in direct contact with the block and hot oil. Also, the drain plug has a copper or rubber lipped washer that can be replaced, and you could even try just a slight up-torquing of the oil pan bolts.
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 3 жыл бұрын
The adapter is on the side? My filter points straight down. I checked it last night and the filter is completely clean and so is the drain. I’ll try tightening the oil pan bolts, too. seems like it only seeps when it’s cold, too. never when it’s hot out
@rhekman
@rhekman 3 жыл бұрын
@@rayregnogarage It's a right angle adapter made out of aluminum. There's a filter boss already in the block that would point the filter out to the side if mounted directly. If it's not leaking though, probably not worth messing with.
@rayregnogarage
@rayregnogarage 3 жыл бұрын
@@rhekman Ya, it seems to be seeping from higher up. the entire oil pan is "wet" and has caked on dirt and grease all over it. I've cleaned everything surrounding the drain plug and that remains pretty clean.
@rhekman
@rhekman 3 жыл бұрын
@@rayregnogarage Higher up certainly could be oil pan gasket. At least it's not like the old days of stamped steel pans and cork gaskets. If it's not a serious leak, then it's just free rust-prevention 😂😂😂

The problem with leaving oil just sit even if it's only a little used is carbonic acid. Water and carbon contaminates will combine and create an acid that will eat bearings. Eating bearings is bad. I like to think I change my oil every 3k miles/3 months....but in reality it's about 4k miles every 5-6 months. I'm a trucker and only commute to work once or twice a week, though it is a 30 mile drive on the interstate at non-traffic hours. About ideal for longer oil change intervals anyway. My Ranger has 170k miles on it, she gets a "high mileage" oil and a premium oil filter. Puralator, Napa Gold, etc. Just depends what's cheaper at the time or what I walk up to first, really.

I would say I have used amazon conventional oil for atleast 10 oil changes on the x. 3 oil changes on a b18b complete rebuild/break in miles and 3 on a complete subaru rebuild. Only switching because costco is cheaper and I cant find 10w30 anymore on amazon.

I change annually even though I only put 400miles on the vehicle. Water from condensation that normally would evaporate with regular use can contaminate your oil. My car is a rare SS sedan manual. if it wasnt this car, I wouldnt be as concerned...my other vehicle is an 07 ranger still being built at 410customs shop. I'm hoping it gets completed this year🤪🤪🤪

@@rayregnogarage yes, probably talked about my ranger nearly a year ago. Lol. Its gonna be epic, yes I agree, hes taking his time... Oh man, i could go on and on about the SS but I'll spare ya and just let you consult your Google. Definitely watch at least one vid with a start up and you'll go nuts!!! Its similar to a Pontiac G8. The SS is the newer version. Mine is a 2016 Chevrolet SS sedan with a 6speed manual trans in slip stream blue 17k miles. Comes that way from the factory. It has been coverted back to a Holden Commodore SS VF2 Redline because these are Australian built and imported and rebadged as a chevy in the US. Once the Ranger is finished the SS gets a supercharger and headers for the LS3.
