thanks. I was getting upset. Replaced the top bat, thinking it was what powered the watch. (thankfully the watch bat arrived last week) I had zero trouble getting the film between the bats re-installed using my safety pin. Most difficult part was getting the bottom battery out. When replacing the back, you should have mentioned "make sure the rubber "O" ring is in the case recess for it, and the "O" ring is not hard or broken, replace it if it is. Othrrwise the watch will not be water resistant." To adjust the date, pull the crown out 1/2 way. that adjusts the date only, without having to do AM/PM with the hands with the crown all the way out for however many days off it is. (17 days in my case). Nice to have the watch running again. I hope the Swiss Renata bats last as long or longer as the originals. If tey do, they might out-last me. (I'm old) 😁.

Thanks for the very clear video. You showed me how to release the battery latch. Next time you might hold the batteries by the sides instead of the top and bottom when using the metal tweezers. Top and bottom short out the battery terminals.

All due respects to Sunshine Guy for this great video, but I found a shortcut. The top battery is in a tray that can pop out and expose the bottom battery for easy access. I took photos of it but I don't see how to attach them to this comment.

Your video is super well done and clear. Casio has created such complications for us normal people, that I would rather give this watch away than try to change the batteries. Hello AquarianaX, Glad to know that you've found the video helpful. I don't know about other watches, but am sure some also not straight forward in locating the batteries. By the way, for those who read my comments I do have a tip on newer versions of the Casio Forester FT-500 W. The small latch that opens the main battery compartment is being built the same as the one in my video. However, the newer latches are "tighter". These may require a smaller safety pin, needle or other small tool to open and release the latch. But it will release the latch to expose the battery compartment. Dave

If the light still works you could pull that whole green mechanism off with the needle and reveal the movement. You could then simply replace the small battery. Put the green mechanism back on by aligning the stem channel.

Thanks. One little mistake however. When replacing the watch battery you grabbed the new battery with a set of metal tweezers. This shorts out the battery from top of case to the bottom of the case. Otherwise a good instructional.

Hello Keriah7, The Casio Forester FT 500 W is water resistant, not water proof. I don't have any direct knowledge of any lessening of water resistance in opening the case. Although if a battery is replaced and the backplate replaced tightly/properly, it should not have any less water resistance from the seal than that from the factory. Dave

How does the velcro strap workout rather than a resin band?

Hello Mr. Hamford, There is a small leather loop that slides onto the strap. The end of this strap passes through the the open "buckle", around your wrist and then through that small leather loop. This remaining velcro of this strap is pushed against the remaining velcro. This loop helps keep the strap end in place.

I think I messed up the latch, as now it doesn't snap down into place to hold the light battery down. Unfortunately, I didn't find your video about using a push pin to open it until after I had pried it up. Now my light won't work. Any advice? If it isn't the latch not staying down (I can manually hold it down, and the battery cover holds it down) then I don't know what I could have done wrong to make the light stop working...)

NM, I got it fixed. The pin under the light button wasn't traveling far enough to make contact for some reason. I used the push pin to push it towards the contact more and it seems to work fine now.

Yes, those fork-like contacts have to touch the light battery and the cover held down tight enough to secure them both. My watch, the face of which looks exactly like this one, and the back of which states FT-500 with module 2312, does not take these batteries. Instead it takes just one CR 2016 battery..much easier to find that battery in stores.

Each numerical and letter designation may represent different configurations, battery types, or even number of batteries, etc. Your Casio Forester without the "W" is not the same exact configuration as the FT-500 W. Hello Mr. Mathias, Do you mean the smaller battery? If so, as mentioned in my video, the smaller battery in a Casio Forester FT 500W is for the watch mechanism, not the light. It is a button cell Type 371. You could google this to find a low-drain equivalent battery number. In most cases it will be a brand of battery that is SR 920 SW. Hello Golden.Lights.Twinkle, It's okay to remove the backplate to determine if your watch has one battery or two. If it has only one battery, replace it with the same type of battery as your existing one. If it has two batteries, then replace whichever one is not working, as shown in my video. Thank you!

@@sunshineguy219 I have one without a W too, and it the inside looks nothing like the one in your video. It is opposite as far as the batteries. Under the back case, there is a white hard plastic cover, and under it is the small battery on top, supposedly the one for the light is under it. I couldn't see it and I couldn't get to it so I gave up. The watch works but the light doesn't. Also, it takes different number battery. Strange they seem to be all over the place. I hope I can find a video that has my watch in it. Thanks though.

@@crowhaven200 Dear Crow, Casio Forester watches have been around for a long time. So, the different letter/number designations sometimes correspond to different configurations of the watch mechanisms. I’m not as familiar with your Forester without the “W” designation, but, about the illuminator/light… If your watch had a light function when you got it and now does not, and the time mechanism does work, but not the light function- then there has to be a battery for the illuminator/light. So, there has to be a latch or release to reveal the light battery. Usually, Casio prints this information on the battery cover. On the watch battery- different battery companies may have different battery numbers. Since your Forester does not have the “W’ designation, it may have a slightly different battery number. Most of the Foresters though take a Type 371 (low drain) or can also take a Type 370 (high drain). Hope this helps. Sunshine Guy

Or copies? I like the low prices and really like the Velcro bands. But I would prefer a better watch. I can't find one video of one with the insides looking like mine. Can't have it all, I guess.

What I am saying is the insides are totally different. The small watch battery is on top, not the other way around like in every single video I could find. Like I described... Rather than continue to try and dig out the whole mechanism, I just didn't replace the light battery. I have a black faced watch, and the little light is useless to me anyway. I never used it.

Hello Mr. Colmenares, I don't know the exact replacement battery number for a FT-610. However, you could find the battery number of your existing battery, then google "battery type for a (your battery #)". This should give you the battery "Type" for the FT-610. The google search should show different brands of batteries for the number that corresponds to your battery type. It would probably be best to stay with a name brand battery. Each battery "type" will usually have a "low drain" or "high drain" battery option, depending on how much you want to spend and how long it should last. Good luck! Dave
