I have an almost identical model to the first you demonstrated on. It had a stuck chuck so I followed your steps and it worked perfectly to unbind it. I'd looked at a few other videos and they were useless - basically hold really tight or use an adjustable wrench - not good for hands or the drill. Regardless, it's working again so back to work. Thank you.

I have tried to remove chucks on my 2 Ryobi drills - a 10yo P214 and a brand new R18PD3, trying to put on better chucks, since Ryobi chucks release bits sometimes. Tried everything - allen key, mallet, long ratchet wrench as a lever, heat, etc. No luck - drills cases were almost breaking from the torque but the chucks didn't budge. I abandoned the idea of changing the chucks out of concern that I was going to break the drills casings or clutches or both. Chuck from my Dewalt drill came off as easily as the one in this video. Go figure...

Was wondering what I should do if the teeth of the chuck got rusted to the wall of the chuck, with a bit inside... don't want to buy an entirely new drill, and tried breaking it free by "loosening" and "tightening" it in an effort to break some of the rust, but have yet to make any progress. Letting it sit with some rust remover gel and seeing if that helps any, but at this point I just want the bit out to get the chuck off and replaced qwq

The chuck are basically universal. If it just spins on number 2 speed the gears are either not engaging or they are wiped out. Use ereplacement parts for reference diagrams and get parts.

My P202 had a gearbox fail, locked up internally. The retain screw on the chuck has so far resisted my attempts to get it out (And yes, I know it is a left hand thread), and my screwdriver keeps slipping out of the bolt head (drill was original store bought). A buddy of mine has a jammed chuck, and I hoped to give it to him. I'll keep at it, maybe with a larger screwdriver.

SAME HERE! Secured allen head wrench into chuck as in the video, added a longer pipe for more torque and banging it w/a hammer to try to loosen the chuck. It very slowly rotates as I bang it, but it's the full drill internals. So there is no loosening of the chuck itself. Still tight.

It should be torqued down and have thread lock applied, so it will take a fair amount of pressure to break it loose. That's normal.

I don't know if anyone else has this issue. The outer grip of Ryobi chuck's are too smooth for me, when I tighten by hand there is hardly any grip, sometimes I get almost a burn on my hands as it slips when tightening. Many times I have larger bits falling out of the chuck because I cant tighten down too well.

The Ryobi Chuck's fricking suck, was chasing this up and apparently a widespread issue to go off axis, become even smoother and Lose it's bite. Lucky most of their other tools are good for the times I use em, I eventually will make a second toolbox for work and use another brand.

I have an old blue and orange Ryobi 1/2" ONE+ drill and a new 3/8". Both original chucks are junk. Screw driving bits with hex shanks slide into them and drill bits will spin unless I carefully use a couple of pairs of channel-lock plies to really crank them down. I have brad new Jacobs 3/8" and 1/2" keyless chucks. I have a Skil corded 1/2" drill I put one of these on because its original keyed chuck was a garbage one that never would grip, not even using the key in all three holes and a box end wrench for extra force. The Jacobs keyless just takes normal hand power until it clicks twice. NEVER EVER SLIPS!!! I want to put these chucks on my Ryobi drills but after removing the left hand threaded screws, and using the longest hex wrenches I have, hitting them so hard I fear of breaking the gearboxes, they will not unscrew. The chuck on my Skil drill and some others I've changed chucks on were no problem. A couple of hard whacks and they popped loose.

Ryobi keyless chucks are pretty pitiful. I just bought a new cordless drill and no matter how tight I twist the chuck, round bits slip and hex shank tools like screwdriver bits slide in. I have a 1/2" Skil corded drill that had the same problem with a crappy keyed chuck out of the box. I replaced it with a Jacobs keyless chuck that clicks twice when it's tight. It *holds*. I'm going to put them on my two Ryobi ONE+ drills. One is the old blue style. Jacobs makes upsize chucks in this type with threads common to drills a size smaller so a 1/4" can have a 3/8" chuck installed or a 3/8" can have a 1/2" chuck installed. I had to use one of those on the Skil because even though it has the power of a 1/2" and out of the box had a 1/2" chuck, the spindle threads were the size common to most 3/8" drills.
@greggv84 жыл бұрын
I removed the left hand thread screws from the chucks on my Ryobi drills, chucked the short end of a decent sized hex wrench in and whacked away with a hammer. Nothing. Just spun the drill over and over without popping the chucks loose from their threads.
