Excellent work, Peter ! Another easy to understand and honest presentation. x1 hour... x4 spark plugs changed. Thank you also for the warnings... not the best place to lose a plug or socket !

Hyvät ohjeet. Itse kiristin Denson Iridium tulpat kireyteen 20Nm. Ohje oli 20-40Nm. Auto on 2005 Mondeo 1.8i. Täytyykin tarkistaa onko kireys pysynyt, olleet 2v ja 50tkm paikallaan. Fordeissa tulpanjohdot pitäisi ilmeisesti vaihtaa samalla kuin tulpatkin, koska vastus johtimissa kasvaa ajan myötä.

Also in English: You should also replace spark plug wire set every 60 / 120k km, because resistance grows in the wires over time. You will save your ignition coil and have less ignition problems. Also use only the OEM wires, I've read bad things about some "racing" wires.

Do you not use any kind of liguid/oil on the sparplugs?? .. Regards Mulde

No. Use only Denso spark plugs, what are Toyota quality ! Here are Densos spark plugs for Ford : www.globaldenso.com/cgi-bin/global/plug/euro/4w/4w-plug.cgi?name=FOCUS+I+%2898-05%29&filename=4w-32.txt&action=search

The first plug I removed came out with some small aluminum pieces. when i tried to remove the second plug, i noticed that some force was required to turn it even after the first 360 degrees. I have the same car. How to continue? to spray wd40? to heat the engine? Please advice.
@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor8 жыл бұрын
+john doe Hi, sounds bad, this aluminium. Your spark plug holes could be damaged. You might need to replace whole cylinder head.

You say in the video to buy the original spark plugs into the engine, and you just said it has NGK one, and the new one in the video is DENSO :) Anyway I exactly wanted to change my spark plugs to DENSO Iridium type. Do you have any tip which would fit into it? I cannot find any into Ford Mondeo Mk3 even if I found many for Mk1, 2, 4, 5.

Hi, your plug is maybe Denso IT20. But look and check in this Denso selecor list: www.globaldenso.com/cgi-bin/global/plug/euro/4w/4w-plug.cgi?name=MONDEO+III+%2800-07%29&filename=4w-32.txt&action=search

kind of seems like you torqued the first one way too much.No anti seize? have fun getting them out of the aluminum heads later on.
@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor10 жыл бұрын
Elliot Marshall You are right, Ford parts went broken easily. I need to use anti seize and torque. I service too much Toyota cars. :-)

50nm is overkill. You risk stripping threads in an aluminium head (what this engine has). Spark plugs should be hand tight plus a tiny nudge. That's all that is needed. If you have to use a torque wrench 🔧 then set it to the minimum (25nm - 28nm for most 1/2" torque wrenches).

Far too much force was used when tightening the new spark plugs! The official Ford figure for spark plug torque is 9 lbf/ft. I don't know where you got the figure you used of 35 lbf/ft but I should think there's every chance you've managed to strip the threads by using that amount of force. Don't forget, you've got a steel spark plug being fitted into an aluminium head. When I fit new plugs I use the spark plug socket extension in my hand with no handle attachment. I tighten by hand as much as possible. I then fit the handle to the extension and just give a very slight nip, just a fraction of a turn, to finally tighten the plug. Never had a problem doing it that way.
