How to perform a tune up on a 2015 Chrysler 200 2.4L 4cyl engine. Dealership quoted $200 for this same job before tax. Spark plugs cost $7.50 each at my local AutoZone, so for only $30 and some basic hand tools it saved me over $170. Really hope this video helps show how easy this job can be and the benefits of doing it yourself!
Everything used in this video to complete the job.

Firestone cost was $300 with part and labor. I watched your video and proceeded step by step instructions and got the job done in 30 minutes and saved myself $225.. Only paid $75 for tools and part.

The correct name for the extender is a extension . And the grabber is a spark plug socket most degreasers should not be used on plastic parts or coils and coil connections . Other than that good work

@Antonio Reyes It's a recall on that. It have something to do with the oil sensor. The sensor tells the car to shut off when it thinks the oil is too low. Google the recalls for the car and you'll see it's part of the lawsuit that's going on now. Hope this helps.

You do not need to remove oil cap and the little black box. Just pop it up, take off the clamp and rotate it out of the way. I changed mine including 2 coils that were throwing codes in about 15 minutes. that included gapping plugs. easiest spark plug change I have ever done. Use a longer extension. Problem with removing oil cap is if you drop something in it. if you do have to remove, stuff a rag in the hole. you will create a serious issue if you drop something in that hole. I cannot express how important that is. Never trust pre gapped plugs either. it costs maybe $3 for a plug gapper tool. Always double check them. When I did mine they were pre gapped, i checked them all and one of them was .040 the rest were .044. .044 is what they should be. gapping them to the correct measurement is important in fuel mileage. iridium plugs are suppose to last 150k miles, platinums 100k and copper are around 25k. Be careful with gapping Iridiums be gentle with them, the small electrode is fragile. Most newer cars come with Iridiums, I think after 2012 model years. 1999 to 2012 came with Platinums. My 2016 200 needed two coils replaced so i just changed the plugs while i was there, it had 50k miles. The plugs I pulled out looked very good still.

I pulled my plugs out for the exact same year and car at 60k miles and they were totally burnt. Don’t wait anywhere near 150k miles. I checked my plugs too and it was .044. You can size it without even touching the electro with the tool. That’s what the hole in the tool is for.

Okay my car has 58,725 miles it's the same year and model has yours. I want a tune up because i don't believe it has ever had one. I bought my car in 2017. Sometimes it jerks when i press the gas, but overall it runs very well. Do i need to change my plugs
@SwanCanFixIt
@SwanCanFixIt 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I would recommend changing the plugs to see if that helps with the jerks you are experiencing when it accelerates. If one or more of the plugs are fouled at this point, then the jerks could be from a misfire of one of the cylinders not sparking properly. I would see if changing the plugs will fix that issue. Hope this helps!

Is it necessary to take off the negative terminal? Cause I have a 2011 200 and I have to jack the car in order to get to the battery 😒
@SwanCanFixIt
@SwanCanFixIt 4 жыл бұрын
For safety purposes its recommended, but in my past experience I have changed spark plugs on cars without disconnecting the battery and haven't had any issues. I know how much of pain Chrysler can be with their genius placement of necessary things like the battery... hope this helps!

I mean like the same spark plugs you used in this video
@SwanCanFixIt
@SwanCanFixIt 4 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. I would check your gas cap to make sure it’s not triggering the engine light and reset the battery. Just remove the negative terminal for 10-15 mins to let the codes reset and see if it comes back on after normal driving. If it does, autozone can scan the car to see what the code is saying for free. Good luck and I hope this helps!

Hey, does the gap on the spark plug matter?
@SwanCanFixIt
@SwanCanFixIt 4 жыл бұрын
For these plugs I didn't need to gap them. It only matters if the Spark plugs aren't already pre-gapped. I just asked my local parts store cashier when checking out. If not gapped already, the recommended gap is .043"

How come I can't get a sey of plugs to last longer than 50 thousand? I've gotta do my third set and I'm at 132k in km of course. I've always had the dealer do my plugs. But it will always get to the point that it won't run proper and it cuts out they get literally dead dead
@SwanCanFixIt
@SwanCanFixIt 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm could be the type of plugs the dealer is using. If they are cheaping out and using copper plugs, they may not even make it to 50k. While iridium double platinum plugs will make it to 80k no problem with little corroding. The extra few bucks for the better plugs definitely goes a long way. Hopefully this helps,

How much $ does all these supplies cost ?
@SwanCanFixIt
@SwanCanFixIt 4 жыл бұрын
$7.50 per plug, so about $30 for the 4x needed. A basic socket set with ratchet will cost $15-$30, grease for plugs was $3, and degreaser to clean everything was $5. Altogether look to spend about $50-$70 if needing to buy all the supplies besides just the plugs. Hope this helps!

Just start your plugs with your socket, extension, and fingers! Not the ratchet! That way you can feel the threads and not booger them up.

It could be your battery, so I would start there. Then check the coil packs to make sure those are all plugged in. Lastly, I would check the spark plugs not being gapped. Hopefully this helps

@DiligentDave1966
@DiligentDave1966 Жыл бұрын
I believe spark plugs are good for 100,000 miles on newer cars. I don’t think I’d recommend removing the oil cap since it’s easy to accidentally drop something in there. You should have shown checking the spark plug gap. A lot of time, they’re not gapped properly out of the box. Also, a little anti seize on the threads is recommended. OMG, you should never start threading the new spark plug with a ratchet. That’s how many people cross thread the spark plugs. Always start by hand until several threads have grabbed smoothly.
