How To Change The Air Filter And Do The Butterfly Valve Delete On A 2004 Toyota Celica

Changing the air filter on a Celica is a dead easy job that should only take you a few minutes, so definitely don't pay a mechanic to do it. Get your hands dirty :) In this video I explain exactly how to get it done for less than £10 while also detailing exactly how the butterfly valve works, how to remove it if you want to increase induction noise and fuel consumption - and how to put it back on when you realise removing it made your car worse.

I've seen people removing these for more airflow. Are you saying it doesn't really make a difference? Been debating on removing it on my GT-S. I would think the airflow being unrestricted would help with acceleration from stop a bit. I don't see why removing the butterfly valve would rob you of any torque though.

It certainly makes a difference in terms of induction noise, but it made the car feel flat when pulling away. The good news is (as you can see from the video) it's a five minute job to swap it out and give the car a run to test for yourself - put it back in if you notice any problems :)

@@BlackLines I certainly don't want that! The accel from a stop is already puzzlingly bad. I'll probably keep the valve in if that's the case, thanks!
