Thanks! Just what I needed, I have the C3-Cat and Dog vacuum. It comes with the carbon HEPA cartridge exhaust filter, and I couldn’t figure out if I needed to install the additional cotton exhaust filter that comes in the vacuum bag box. This is the first video that actually explained that it’s either the cotton exhaust filter OR the carbon HEPA cartridge exhaust filter, not both at the same time.

mine is also C3-cat and dog. I couldn't open the filter as he showed at first. It does deattach from the vacuum cleaner but the filter paper part doesn't open. How did you change yours?

@@Rebel_2891 I dont know what you mean by "entire". It comes as a cartridge you replace. In which case, yeah i changed the entire filter. If you think there's more to it, then no I didn't do anything else.

You helped me to do what the paper manual could not. I replaced the secondary filter and installed the HEPA filter purchased along with the Miele Topaz seven years ago. Yikes!. All this time I'd been replacing only the bags. I'm tossing my paper manuals and relying solely on the internet for appliance info. You are the best!! I have a new Miele C3 Complete Cat & Dog with a Hepa filter. I was following the manual and it said to take of the indicator strip, oops I took off the actual indicator gauge. How do I reattach it or should I just keep track of 50weeks as it advises time frame the filter should last.

There's a timestrip on the front of the filter. The strip turns red, and when it gets to the end, "REPLACE" shows up.

This video was useful. However, one thing I cannot seem to get an answer on is regarding the black fabric piece that rests in front of the vaccum grille. When you open the canister, it's located right above the nozzle that allows you to adjust the suction. I need a replacement for this but I cannot find anything online. Is this part something important of you're already utilizing a HEPA filter?

It is a sound dampener. Leave it on, it is not meant to be changed.

Great video. For some reason my hepa filter pops out when I remove the brush head and the machine loses power. Any ideas? Could it be caused by air getting on through the body and affecting the air pressure?

Miele advise every 4 x dust bags. It's easy to remember since the filters come in the same 4-pack box of dust bags. So change it out when you open a new box of bags basically.

Good question. I'm wondering that too. Simple exhaust filters are much cheaper but I don't have a cartridge either so I suppose I have to continue using the expensive filters then.. It's honestly a bit puzzling. Filter names in the manual and in shop also vary a little. I don't get it how simple things can be made so complicated. All I know is that my next vacuum cleaner will not be Miele.

You can use the simple filter instead of the more expensive hepa filter, you can purchase the filter compartment to replace the hepa filter, then the simple filter goes into that.
