Darcy, I think the blades are supposed to be able to turn a little so not tightened really tight. This is in case they hit something hard, cetrifugal force will return them to full extension when spinning. Cheers, please correct me if I am wrong. Funny commentary 👍

Yes, I was told leave them just loose enough so they can swing away if they hit a stump or anything else immovable. Centrifugal force keeps them in the right position the rest of the time when cutting grass 👍🏻 Solid one piece blades can mess up your timing if they hit something and stop the mower dead which usually causes snatchback on the recoil when starting- that hurts!!

The video was produced with good intentions. *You're Correct* - That's the whole point of having lock nuts on the blades. Tighten to a point where they LOCK but still allow movement of the blade if the blade hit's a rock or tree root etc. They are designed to be a one-time use so once removed you effectively no-longer have a lock nut. Definitely _DO NOT_ use WD-40 on them, it defeats the whole purpose of a lock nut. Well done Darcy - You sound like me when I take stuff apart and put it back together.

Very useful and helped me sharpen the factory blades. However, i had to change position of the blades from straight like the video to the original (at an angle). This stopped the grass lines on the ground that would not land inside the catcher.

I found it easier to take that centre bolt out and the whole assembly comes off the mower, and you can change them on the bench ?

I’m almost positive the Center assembly isn’t designed to come off. I read it somewhere after I tried with a spanner, tire iron and rattle gun to no avail. Doing it the way I did worked quite easily now I’ve done it a few times.

It's so much easier just to take the whole blade assembly of to access to the blade bolts. The blades are not adjustable they are 18 inch and even if you tighten them they will still be thrown out to 18 inch. You adjust the blades so you can still move them and not tight otherwise you'll damage the plastic washes.

Had you considered changing the blades with the catcher flap up and work thru the aperture from the top. Much easier.. !! Mower needs to be at elevated waist height for this job.
