In this video I show you how to flush the cooling system on your Jeep and replace the thermostat. I show you how to do this process yourself and save $$$. This particular video will be helpful if you have a Jeep with the 3.8L V6. Is still very similar though if you have the later model Jeep with the 3.6L. This video was not sponsored and all parts paid for by myself. These are not affiliate links, but I wanted to include them to make it easier for you to get what you need if you decide to do this job. Here are some links for what I purchased for this job:
Coolant: Zerex Gold concentrate

Thermostat: Murray part number 65695

@@JKJeep quick question I believe current coolant in my jeep is mopar do you think it’s fine if after replacing the thermostat I top it off with zerex OAT coolant?, or just completely flush out the old?
@JKJeep
@JKJeep 3 ай бұрын
@@PNWdays I’m not an expert by any means, but if the coolant is compatible it should be ok. If you are replacing the thermostat and there anyways though, I would recommend flushing the system and putting in all new.

Great video. I have a 2013 Jeep wrangler with the 3.6. Is the procedure more or less the same ? I’ve been looking for a good coolant flush video and yours is the best I’ve come across so far 👍
@JKJeep
@JKJeep 2 ай бұрын
Wow thank you, I really appreciate that! Yes, the overall procedure for flushing and purging the air out is the same. Flushing your heater core will be the same as well. The main difference may be your thermostat placement on the 3.6, but if you follow the upper radiator hose it will take you to the thermostat housing if you are wanting to change that. Thank you for watching!

great video, thanks. I have very hard water where I live so is there a concern with mineral deposits when you flush with the hose? I'm thinking no since you are hopefully flushing the majority of that water out but just thought I would ask.
@JKJeep
@JKJeep 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! That is a great question, it only takes a couple gallons to flush the system. So in that case if you get spring water or drinking water you could use that to flush the system. It doesn’t have to be pressurized so you could secure a funnel to your heater hose to flush the heater core. Thank you for the question, I’m sure other areas would have that issue as well.

That's was a pretty good and informative video. Appreciate your time and effort. I did notice that the fluid you were using was yellow as opposed to the Mopar red/orange that was originally on the system. Did to have any issues using a different type of coolant?
@JKJeep
@JKJeep 3 ай бұрын
Thank you! I have not had any issues, the coolant I used is a OAT coolant that the manufacturer says is compatible with the OE coolant, so I felt confident using. With doing the complete flush especially changing hasn’t been an issue. But, if I hadn’t done the flush and just needed to added coolant I would air on the side of caution and just get the Mopar coolant. Thank you for watching!

@@JKJeep think that was where I made a mistake. Mixed Prestone Universal green coolant that says it is compatible OAT and HOAT for Jeep with a previous orange coolant I had in there. Cannot get the Jeep to stop running hot and overheating. Think I have to flush the whole system unless it’s a thermostat or water pump issue. This video is a huge help for me not to take this issue to an expensive mechanic

Nice video, for my case I need to change out my heater core, would I need to drain my coolant like in the video or is it not necessary? Thanks
@JKJeep
@JKJeep 3 ай бұрын
Thank you and thanks for watching! Yes you will have to drain some out to where your heater core can empty. You can do this using the valve at the bottom of the radiator, or just pull a heater core hose and let drain that way. Thanks again for watching.

@@JKJeep Top trans cooler line broke right off the radiator. Coolant came out that hole also. Connected both trans lines to each other using the broken off connector piece (bypassing the radiator altogether) and spent a total of 6 hours getting home (20 miles). Made stops every few miles because no trans cooler and no pressure in radiator and fluid leaking out of hole. Drove last 6 miles with hood totally open. Cops helped me with needle nose pliers and kid saw me woking on the side of the road and brought me 2.5 qts of trans fluid at midnight (did not use and will return to him) and a screw clamp which I needed because my 20 year old original clamp broke as I removed it. Ordering brand new radiator and both hoses asap.

@@JKJeep Just woke up after 4 hours of sleep. Gathering my thoughts and making to do list. Ordered Denso radiator from Amazon before I slept. Will be writing a letter of accomodation to the two cops and a letter to the kid's parents telling them about their son's character. When the car is up and running will also be returning the 2.5qts of trans fluid the kid gave me. The kid had an interest in cars so I can send him a diagram of the work I did joining the trans lines (by passing the radiator). That's about it. That radiator was leaking years ago, I should have changed it then. Lessons.
