Awesome video! Very easy to follow, I got stuck a few times taking my cutter head out at different stages and when I went back to your video each time you had the answer! 👏👏

Sir, thank you immensely for this video. I'm restoring a badly-abused Jet OS16 I got cheap. I was stuck on the cutter head until I found this. I watched it about 3 or 4 times, and just waltzed right through the project. VERY similar to your planer. And that zip-tie trick! LOVE it!

Well done video. Thank you from the Mr. Sawdust School of Professional Woodworking. I'll be changing my cutter head today.

While this video is accurate, it does gloss over some of the areas that you'll probably have trouble with. 1st, DO NOT reuse the the rubber gasket, order a new one before you start. 2nd, chances are the gears will not stay handily in the gear box lid. Mine all stayed in the box and I had to figure a way to remove them to gain access to the end of the cutter head shaft. Last, if your planer has been used awhile you will want to clean the gears and chains and lube them with fresh grease.

How did you deprecate the gearbox from the head? My bearing won't budge out of the gear housing.

Very interesting video, and its great you took the time to make it..It will help woodworkers that want to install one on there planers, much more easier to understand. It was cool to the inners of the planer.. I want to install one on my Delta 22-790X 15" planer, but those heads a pretty costly. Is Yorkcraft brand still around??? Thanks for posting, and keep the videos coming.. Take Care, Michael Frey Portland, OR FREY WOODWORKING INC.

A lot of times instead of wacking things with a hammer you can press stuff together with a good glue-clamp and some wooden blocks or a little pvc pipe.

One would think Popular Woodworking would know the difference between a jointer and a thickness planer. Good tutorial though if you have a pro style planer.

The title of the post should be "How to Change the Cutterhead on a Planer"

8 db = way different? From 98 to 90 and you had ear protection on so I don't see how you can make such a statement. I'm sure the cut quality is a vast improvement over straight blades.

Perhaps this should be done before more than 75% of the comments on the video consist of pointing this schoolboy flaw out too! :-)

you do a great job, but for the safety to not lose srews, you need just a magnet
@BlackSwan9128 жыл бұрын
Not true. Sorry. You can lose them in a myriad of places, and if you don't know where to poke with that magnet, it's useless as TOB.

Well, it is until you dig in and start actually doing it. Then you find yourself really absorbed in it, and it's actually a blast (dirty, but still a blast!).
