If you want to buy an "I AM THE WARRANTY" shirt OR if this saved you a good deal of time and/or money and want to buy me a coffee or a beer, you can do those things right here: ko-fi.com/helpmediy
I did a differential fluid/oil change in my 2015 BMW M4 F82 DCT today and made a DIY video tutorial since there is not a comprehensive one available that I could find. I did a lot of research on the forums and tried to incorporate the main topics and concerns that kept coming up. Hopefully this helps to explain some things and is helpful. If you have anything to add, please comment below and share with everyone!

Awesome video - fun and educational at the same time! I would throw in a few thoughts for newbies watching this video to do this type of work. 1. When breaking those plugs loose, always keep a hand at the base of the wrench (where the socket & extender are attached) - this keeps you from pushing off center, slipping off the head of the plug and potentially stripping the hex cavity. 2. I try to use a breaker bar instead of a ratchet to get super-tight bolts loose, your ratchet's gears could slip and send your hands toward something bad. 3. And in addition to using a breaker bar, if a bolt is ridiculously tight, I keep two hollow steel bars (12" long and another 24" long) sitting around to extend my breaker bar to achieve massive torque with minimal effort.

Super tight bolt just use a wrench at the bottom of the ratchet handle for added leverage lol also wouldn’t put both hands on the bottom of the ratchet handle had a buddy round the fill plug that way 😫

Maybe there's an obvious answer for this, but I wonder whether the air bubbles that I saw in the oil coming from the pump make a difference to the differential operation. Was there any guidance from BMW, or something you learned? The wife did a great job on the haircut! 🙂

I've tried following your link to the diff oil as I am about to change my own diff oil on a 2016 M4 with 57k miles on the clock (mine appears to have never been done!) but as I am based in the UK the pricing associated with the oil is impractical! I am looking at purchasing some Redline 75w-140 LS diff oil and some friction modifier. Do you think that will be appropriate for our cars?

Heads up! FCP Euro also lists the diff oil with the Friction Modifier Booster (82 22 2 282 583), for late model M3’s (mine is a 2018). I opted for same as used in this video (83 22 2 357 992). I double checked with local BMW dealership here in Houston. Their database says use the 992. Thx for video and sage advice on the oil with FM Booster.

Thanks to the video but may I ask why the tightening torque is different? You explained that the tightening torque of the drain plug is 60 Nm. However, in ISTA+, I found that the tightening torque of the drain plug is 45 Nm. My vehicle information of ISTA+ is 2017 F80 M3. In ISTA+, I found the tightening torque through below menu. Vehicle management > Repair/maintenance > Product Structure > 33 Rear axle, rear-wheel drive, guide > 3310 Rear axle final drive > 0011259 Oil change in rear axle final drive incl. used oil disposal > Click "Tightening torque 33 11 5AZ" > From the table, "5AZ Screw plug with O-ring" says 45 Nm.
