How to change the engine coolant to the hyundai kona ioniq and kia niro

These are the instructions I could best come up with from this video: Drain from radiator, oil cooler and heater line (farther back) Face heater line down to lowest level Once drained disconnect upper heater line from above Apply air pressure to cooler reservoir and inlet on upper heater line Reconnect rad drain plug, oil cooler and heater line From above with the upper heater line still disconnected and in an up right position, add coolant to reservoir. Once coolant is leaking from UHL inlet/hose add coolant to the upright upper heater line and reconnect unless dripping from hose already. Then he mentions that having the lower hose is better to have disconnected and says he did but in the video only the upper heater line is touched. So I will only mess with UHL. After dripping starts from UHL inlet/hose reconnect and fill coolant so that it fills most of your funnel so that gravity is a higher factor. Im sure you can continuously add coolant as well. Start car with heat on full blast as well as the fan. Wait for car to crank and monitor coolant level add as necessary. Continue to run vehicle until the level no longer drops. Take the car for a ride and check level after add as necessary.

Hi there thank you for the vid. I have question, is the coolant flush for the hybrid motor (the reservoir on the other side on top of the big orange cable) basically the same? Can I get away with just simply drain the fluid and refill?

Hi and thanks for another interesting and informative video i have learned so much from your tutorials 1 question i own a 2018 ioniq plug-in hybrid sometimes in the morning when the engine is cold the temperature light flashes and the temperature guage reads 120c this continues until i switch everything off and wait 5 or 10 mins then i switch on and temperature reads fine and light is off? I have replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor but it made no difference? Any recommendations would be much appreciated Best wishes

Hi, thanks for your helpful videos. I went my car for it's first service (Kona hybrid ) and the inverter coolant level was just above min, between min and max. The stupid mechanic put IAT green coolant in the inverter tank, up to max level( it had pink from the factory probably OAT). I realized he did something wrong and I asked him to take it off immediately without starting the car. He took off what he could but from the top of the container using a hand pump, he did not drain the car from below, then he refilled with pink original coolant. I drove the car for 500km, I complained to Hyundai and they asked me to visit again the maintenance center. They admitted their mistake and told me that they will drain the car completely and put original coolant. However they did not flush with distilled water or air during the process, just drain and fill. Do you think I have to do something else? Or after these steps the risk is low? Thanks in advance.

….. coolant is water. It’s 50% water and 50% anti-freeze to prevent the water from freezing in cold weather. In hot weather, you can literally run your radiator with 100% water. Am I missing something? What is the problem here?

Yes, look's like that by trying to play the inteligent smartman, you forgot that regular water rust oxidize inside the cooling system causing middle long term clogging materials that cause many issues... so please if you are not a mechanic then your comment it's ok ... but brow, if you are a technician please change career 😎👍

This car can come with two types of coolant from the factory: phosphate-based (usually green) and mono-ethylene-glycol-based (usually pink). Both of these liquids MUST be diluted with distilled water. If one of these liquids is poured without dilution with water, then it is guaranteed to eat your pipes and maybe even the engine. The Motul liquid shown in the video is mono-ethylene-glycol based, already diluted with distilled water and is ready to use (this information is easy to find on the Internet). The coolant base (no matter what) works as an additive to water and performs two functions: it keeps liquids from freezing in winter and prevents water from showing corrosive properties. These two coolants are not compatible with each other, and when replacing one coolant with another, it is imperative to flush (purge) the system. And what is the difference between them and why are there two types for this car? The manufacturer recommends a phosphate base for this car, but in many countries the phosphate base is simply prohibited due to environmental damage. At the same time, phosphates better protect aluminum engines. Therefore, the conclusion is as follows: is it possible to say that the water is the coolant? I think no. Coolant is precisely a mixture of one of these bases with water and nothing else. In both cases, a 1:1 ratio is optimal. The coolant loses its anti-corrosion properties if the water/base ratio goes beyond 35%-65%.
