Although self-evident, you should have mentioned that the bike needs to be upright, not on its kickstand. And once the gear oil is added, the rear wheel should be spun by hand to coat the gears and thus require a small top-up afterwards.

This is very helpful thanks. Will be doing this. Love every detail you gave us. Im having an issue with 1st gear where it goes up to neutral. Any idea? Everything is stock 🤔

Not sure why you are having issue with it going up to neutral. I know the Vstars can be sensitive between 1st and neutral, very touchy.

That should be exactly like my royal star right? I just bought a 1300 and i already did an oil change so tomorrow im doing my clutch bleed and break fluid aswell. Whats some top oils you use on your 1100? I use reds on my old bikes

Yes I think it is on the 1300 as well, as for oil I use Yamalube for engine and final drive.

Hi , what size torque wrench would you recommend for xvs1100 for general maintenance , thank you
@bernbo6 жыл бұрын
I would recommend 2 types, you can pick up a 3/8-Inch and 1/2-Inch Beam Style Torque Wrench, 0-150-Feet Pound... by Tooluxe, you can find these on sale for fairly cheap. And also a 1/2 drive click type torque wrench, there a more expensive but if your going to remove the rear wheel it's great for torqing down the 22 mm axle nut. These wrenches go on sale often so wait for a good deal. Cheers🍻

Thanks for the video! I think you forgot the crush washer on the drain plug
@bernbo6 жыл бұрын
MotorScotti Hey Scotti, thanks for watching the vid. As far as I know there isn't one on the diff because it has a breather cap on the unit. Cheers bro.
@MotorScotti6 жыл бұрын
I just did the final gear oil change on mine today and it had a washer on the drain plug and on the filler plug. Same washer as on the engine oil drain plug. Did you buy yours new? Maybe the guy who changed it last time didn't care about putting new washers in. Anyway, ride safely and have fun!
@bernbo6 жыл бұрын
MotorScotti Actually bought it used, good to know Scotti, thanks for getting back to me on that, I'll have to pick up some crush washers. Cheers

How come you didn't change out the crush washers (fill point and drain point)??
@bernbo5 жыл бұрын
I have never changed them, and never had issues with leaking either. I just make sure it's all very clean when putting back together.
@sunnydaze36244 жыл бұрын
changed the gear oil just gine. then thr gears ground up on a dhort time aftrr oil change. 46,500 miles. changed gear oil twice in the earlier mileage days with no problems. took it to yamaha dealer - paid $1100.00 for new rear gearbox and installment. now my rear head exhaust gasket is getting shipped .it will be the one for$16... not the $6 one i tried to jam into the manifold portal hole today.with no luck. because it was too big.

Ever had one push fluid out of the vent
@bernbo4 жыл бұрын
No i haven't had that happen. The only thing i can think of is it was over filled. Keep an eye on the oil level though you dont want it to get so low that it damages the gears. I have read that it could cause the rear end to lock up without oil. If it continues to leak i would take it in to a shop. Hopefully it was just over filled.

I'm getting an 1100. It looks almost exactly like your bike but no skull carb cover. Yeah I saw your review on them. I know it's been up a while and didn't know if that has changed to anything better.

@@chadharvy Right on Chad, congrats. I love the 1100 absolutely no regrets. You doing a carb cover mod on it when you get it lol. Cheers

@@bernbo probably not. I'm thinking about getting a chopper kit for it though. Also going to put one of those easy oil filler extension kits on it. Definitely going to remove all the decals.

Hello, how many liters of fluid you put in?
@bernbo5 жыл бұрын
Hi Ivan, you just need to put enough oil to bring it the bottom of the threads at the fill hole.
@lakino05115 жыл бұрын
Ok....and is enough to buy 1 bottle like on the video?
@bernbo5 жыл бұрын
@@lakino0511 yes 1 bottle is all you need, you could do a couple of oil changes with one bottle. Cheers!
does anybody knows if the final drive of the vstar 650cc is the same for the vstar 1100cc??

@bernbo6 жыл бұрын
Now that you mention it, I guess I don't lol.
@warrenalbert93364 жыл бұрын
Why is it 1/2 the videos show the bike tilted on the kick stand and 1/2 show it either level on a stand or the hub level in a vise when they fill it. Which is the correct way. Dealers too show it tilted on the kick stand, and nobody mentions which is the right way. Can make a big difference how much more it takes. And man you sure let this old get past due. Much be the original from factory?
@bernbo4 жыл бұрын
Hey Warren, great question. The bike should be sitting level, have someone sit on the bike when you refill and top up to the bottom of the threads.
