Hello guys and welcome to mattsbeamer. This video is a quick video on changing the front discs and pads on a BMW F20 F21 1 series.
I recommend that you use NEWTIS to check the Torque setting to your specific car.

Great discription and you are the first to actually replace the bolts 👍🏽. That's the right way to do it. Most people just reuse the old ones which is wrong.

Loosen the disc removing bolts while the brakes are in place. That way if they are tight someone can put their foot on the brake pedal if tight. Reuse the caliper carrier bolts if necessary but only after after putting locktite locking compound on.

Thanks for a great video. Just a heads-up - NEWTIS has now been BLOCKED by BMW and you have to go to BMWTIS and pay thru the nose. Or got o Ebay and take your chances with the PDF downloads for F20 etc.

Can the discs be removed without removing the carrier? Pretty sure on other cars there's just enough room between the disc face and the carrier to angle it out?
@mattsbeamer
@mattsbeamer 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, to be honest, I am not sure, I know on my older BMWs you could, but on this car, I stick to doing it the long way round. Sorry I wasn't able to answer your question :)
@mrl3170
@mrl3170 2 жыл бұрын
I now have the answer, you can angle the disc out on the front without moving the carrier out of the way (saves buying new bolts to). On the Rears you can just losen one and remove the other and discs can be removed 👍

@@macfosch you need to adjust the rear handbrake shoes. I think George Austers made a video on adjusting the rear parking shoes on his old 1 series. They are all very similar

Hi great video, but was wondering if you could help me out? I just took my F21 for a MOT at the BMW dealership and they found four missing nipple bleed dust caps on the ends of the metal screws on the brakes calipers. In turn they said that both of my brake wear sensors have come loose and snapped as they rubbed against the wheels. They told me I need to get the plastic dust caps because the brake wear sensors are supposed to clip onto this dust cap. But when I see your video that doesn't seem to be the case? Mines a F21 116i 2013 model. Thank you
@mattsbeamer
@mattsbeamer 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, do they mean that the wire for the sensor has snapped or worn through.
@Hero87
@Hero87 3 жыл бұрын
@@mattsbeamer Hi there, thanks for the quick reply. Yes both wires have snapped, I still have 11mm front and 8mm rear remaining on the pads. They told me they came loose as the bleed nipple dust caps (all 4 are missing oddly) which according to them are supposed to allow part of the wire to clip onto. I'm trying to source some dust caps off eBay as the dealership could not source the caps without ordering the calliper part too which they said would cost me £220.
@mattsbeamer
@mattsbeamer 3 жыл бұрын
@@Hero87 for some reason I didn’t capture it on film on this video. But on my rear disc video I can see that it’s held into place with the cap. I’ll try and see if I can search for the bleep nipple covers too. Strange they are missing.
@Hero87
@Hero87 3 жыл бұрын
@@mattsbeamer Thanks just seen it in your rear pad sensor video. Also thanks for trying to find the caps too. The dealership also did my brake fluid service last year, but doubt that involves removing the dust caps on the callipers. If so then maybe they didn't put them on tight enough very odd anyway but never mind.
@mattsbeamer

I had a quick look on realoem, and it seems that the dealership didn't know how to use their computer. I think they need to look for this part 34116852852 (Repair kit ventilation valve) the thing is it comes with the little valve too (not the whole calliper thou) Front (7) www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=1A11-EUR-02-2012-F20-BMW-116i&diagId=34_1968 Rear (7) www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=1A11-EUR-02-2012-F20-BMW-116i&diagId=34_1969
