Thanks for the video, I'm removing my abarth gear knob. it's really hard to twist it out .and I've torn the belt wrench. 😂😂😂

That’s not good! I used a Draper Redline 68813 Oil Filter Strap Wrench, blue, 100mm to do the job. Bought it on Amazon, hope this helps!

Just done exactly the same job myself this morning. Luckily my aluminium knob came off easily. Getting the gaiter off was my sticking point but all done now with a nice blue latheworks knob!!

It was one of those on paper simple jobs that turned out anything but. Someone said the factory started gluing the nob on at some point and I reckon they’re right! The Latheworks knobs are really good, and a big improvement on one of the key contact points you have with the car.

Yes, should be exactly the same as your 2019 will be a Series 4 as was my car. You might be lucky and the way the factory glued the knob on might work better for you, I’m not sure of when they increased the strength of the glue. Good luck with the job, and thanks for watching the video.

I've been trying to undo mine for ages... I think it's impossible to do without wrecking the original knob I've tried heat and various straps wrenches but no luck for me. It just feels like something is going to break

I feel your pain! I had to use a stupid amount of force and had reached the stage where I was past caring and would just have to fix anything that broke…then BANG it came undone. I can’t really give you any more hints etc, I just got really forceful with mine and it worked. But obviously it’s your choice as to how much force you are prepared to use, the knob on later cars is glued/loctited on at the factory so you have to break that bond. Do you guys know where does little rubber O ring fits? I got a hold on aluminum oem knob like yours factory one (shaft,knob,adapter and O ring in set), and I want to replace my standard leather knob. Thanks, cheers

Hi Richard. I bought the new gear lever from a chap in the Abarth Owners Club, Oliver Andrews. His email is [e-mail] and can be found on Facebook under “Latheworks”. From a recent post I don’t think he is doing them any more but at the time of writing does have some existing stock that he’s selling.

@@WolfiesWheels Thank you for the reply, the issue is I wanted to replace the stock one like yours with an older Turismo version, the older versions have a smaller screw attachment in the top centre of the shaft, now I can't find one to fit, also damaged my original like you and can't find a stock replacement :(

You simply remove the gaiter by cutting the zip tie then it all just pops off put new knob on and zip tie it on job done doesnt even take 5 mins!! And no damage whatsoever 😢

Not sure I understand your comment - gaiter very easy to remove as you say, but the struggle was unscrewing the original gear knob.

@@WolfiesWheels hi sorry for not being clear you don’t need to unscrew the knob,just take gaiter off snip the tie and the whole unit detaches the only thing holding the gear lever on is the tie down whatever was originally used tc
