One thing to add - he mentioned in the video that is it over 7-gallons of fluid. That means when you drain the fluid - you need plenty of drain pan and storage containers. I bought a 2nd drain pain just for this purpose. My storage can is only 5-gals so I put the old fluid back in the new fluid containers afterwards to take to the recycling center - this way I was able to do oil and hydraulic fluids in one sitting ; )

This is a very handy video. I did plugs in reverse. Plug facing down drains right into pan and has the majority of oil. Then plug facing forward. His idea for blocking oil on rear small plugs is very good even when you remove the majority of oil from big plugs. Thanks for the tips. 10:06

The cheapest form of repair is regular maintenance. Read the book and do what it says. I use a large Rubbermaid tub with 30 gallon trash bags (two of em) This holds all 10 gallons of hydraulic fluid and the 2 gallons for the front axle. Try draining and changing the filters first as it draws down a lot of the fluid. Less needs to be drained from the 4 drains, so less danger of the horizontal drains spattering the fluid over the floor. Check the front axle for proper level frequently after a change as its very possible for the oil to flow out the axle level check plug before the axle is really at the proper level. Thanks for your videos; they're very helpful.

Very well explained tutorial and really helpful for Kubota owners. I'm about to change the transmission filter at 200 hours, done 195 hours currently, don't need to change the oil until 400 hours. Oil was changed at 10 hours and last filter was put on at 50 hours. I have a Kioti. Never seen a filter that tight before, thought you were going to hammer a large screwdriver through it for leverage but you came up with a more elegant solution, well done.

Thanks, Mark! Your Kioti oil and filter intervals sound about the same as Kubota, except first engine oil and filter change is a 50 hours. I am a first-time tractor owner. My L3901 DT will be delivered later today. I want to do the maintenance by the book. Just making sure I am 100% correct. For my tractor, the fluid changes include: Hydraulic fluid, 1 Hydraulic filter, Engine oil, and engine oil filter? Really appreciate your videos.
@DIYMyWay3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike! Well according to my 2017 L3901 manual, at 50 hours you change the engine oil and filter and the transmission oil filter. At 200 hours you change the transmission oil filter again and every 200 hours after that. You don't change the hydraulic fluid and filter until 400 hours and every 400 hours after that. However, some Kubota models and other tractor makers have you change the hydraulic oil at the first 50 hours, then at 400 hours and every 400 hours after that. Bottom Line: follow your manual to the letter. Congrats on your new tractor and thanks for watching!

You should mention that for the 50hr service, unlike the engine oil, the hydraulic system requires only the filters to be changed, not the oil. However, if you change the "inlet filter" on the right side of the machine, you will lose a lot of oil unless you are quick to get the new filter spun back on. This is only true on the 50hr service, at the 200hr service and all subsequent services both filter and oil get changed.
@kevinkollman91623 жыл бұрын
I am ocd so the 50 hour fluid change on my 2009 B2920' I changed everything. It says just under one gallon' I let it drain all night and pulled both engine drain plugs and it took over 1 gal. Now I change engine oil and filter every 100 hrs. I did the hydro & 4WD at 400 and now every 400. I have 1200 hrs on it and it runs like new. never a problem //
@jeffvanrobertson29703 жыл бұрын

As a Kubota technician, I saw no issue with the maintenance you performed, I was unaware of the razor knife trick for the transmission filter. I invested in a filter wrench made for large equipment and semi truck filters instead that is about 2ft long to do those. Sadly, the issue with the filters has persisted from the Standard L01 series to the new L02 series, but I guess I get to keep gratifying my investment.

How much metal shavings do you find on those magnetic rings during regular maintenance? Is there and expected (safe..) amount of metal to find during each tractor service?

Is it possible to overfill? I have a sight glass and couldn't see it was full. It filled to top of where the new goes in and drained down some. Will overfill cause damage?
@DIYMyWay2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christine! Yes, you can over fill and it can cause damage. A little extra is not a problem but if you have filled to the top of the fill port, that’s WAY too much. Do you only have a sight glass on your tractor or is there also a dipstick? If you have a dipstick, drain fluid until it’s at the right level. Otherwise, all you can do is to drain it all into a clean pan and pour back in only the exact amount specified. I know that will be a pain but it’s very important too have the correct amount of hydraulic fluid. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Hi, I have an L4600. It's 9 yrs old with 120 hours. Over time, the control lever pedal is harder & harder to press. Also, the pedal does not come back to stop when foot is taken off pedal. What is the fix for this? Paul Conway
@DIYMyWay2 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul! Only 120 hours in NINE years?? That’s amazing! The first thing I’d check is for limbs or debris restricting the linkages from moving. Next is lubrication. Are there any grease zerks you haven’t been greasing? I don’t know for sure, but I can’t imagine a problem in the transmission itself that would explain this, so I think it is mostly likely friction in the pedal linkages. Good luck!

@@DIYMyWay Hi, I thought the same & had already looked under the tractor. There are no grease fittings on the shaft that the peddle moves, which baffles me as to why not. And very little external linkage which is clear of any debris.
@DIYMyWay2 жыл бұрын
Well then you could try using a grease needle to inject some grease in at the edges to see if that helps. Otherwise, you may have to take it to your dealership to repair. Good luck!

So the hydrolic system and transmission use the same fluid?

Yes. Thanks for watching!

On a L4330 do you have to drop front drive shaft to drop the oil pan?
@darken31503 жыл бұрын
Do you have a link to that spreadsheet so I can print it?

Not to the check list because that is copied from my tractor manual. However, here's a link to the Kubota L Series Maintenance Tool and Supply List that I made: diymywaynet.files.wordpress.com/2019/10/kubota-l-series-maintenance-tools-list-1.pdf Thanks for watching!

Have any of you noticed your PTO shaft turning even when the PTO is disengaged? It seems to spin faster as the tractor goes faster. Is this normal? I called my kubota dealer and they didn’t really give me a straight answer, just said sometimes it happens due to the hydraulic fluid pressure? Should this be something I should be concerned with? I have a 2019 L3901 with just under 300 hours. Thanks!
@DIYMyWay Жыл бұрын
Hi Brandon! I only remember seeing that happen one time on my tractor when nothing was connected to the PTO. Next time you see it turning when disengaged and nothing hooked up you might consider seeing if you can stop it with a gentle grip with your bare finger tips or with a nitrile glove on. Don’t try it with leather glove in case it real is engaged. The leather glove might get caught on the splines and make a bad day for you. If you can stop it from spinning then don’t worry about it. If you can’t then it’s time to get it looked at by the dealer. Thanks for watching!

One thing I should add is that if the PTO still turns implements when it is disengaged even long after it should have come to a stop then it needs to be fixed by the dealer.

Hello for kubota L1-295, does it use hydraulic too at the back of the tractor?
@DIYMyWay4 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with that model, but if it has an HST transmission and is not a really old model tractor, then the answer is probably yes. If you can't find a manual for it. A Kubota dealer can probably tell you. Thanks for watching!
@holygate5274 жыл бұрын
@@DIYMyWay This is old model and it doesn’t use transmission but I am wondering what fluid should be refilled because there is a fluid storage at the back just like in the your video. I don’t have manual.

Great video, I have a L3901 standard tractor, not hydrostatic Do I only have one filter to change hydraulic fluid?
@DIYMyWay4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Dominic! Yes, that's right, since I'm guessing you don't have a filter for a manual transmission. Thanks for watching!

My L2250 has a fill point on the floor near you feet and one on the back of the three post hitch. Do you have to fill both locations? Thanks Dennis

Hi Dennis! I don’t know. I’m not familiar with the L2250, but your manual should say. Thanks for watching!

You need a drain pan with a bigger opening! Try a transmission drain pan for some of those where you're having to chase the oil stream.

What is the actual CORRECT service hours for the 50 vs the 100 or 400 when to change what? On this video it also says Transmission filter changed at 50 hrs?? I thought it was just the HST filter at 50 hours along with the oil and oil filter? Another question I have is why did the manual say only change the HST filter at 50 hrs? Is it possible to do that without also changing the HST Oil? I bought some fluid to top off in case it spills everywhere in the process.
@DIYMyWay Жыл бұрын
The CORRECT services hours is whatever the manual says for YOUR tractor if you want to keep your warranty. As to WHY the hours and filters changed vary for different tractor models, you’ll have to ask Kubota. Thanks for watching!
